Open thread: The last Labor Day
Let’s get it over with and rename the holiday “Capital Day.” We may still celebrate Labor Day, but our culture has given up on honoring workers as the real creators of wealth and their honest toil — the phrase itself seems antique — as worthy of genuine respect.

Some cops should be in jail
Found this on our Twitter feed.
A man who was eating a taco at a Raleigh bus stop says a cop swept-kicked him to the ground, broke his leg and arrested him, then hauled him before a judge who sentenced him to 30 days in jail for contempt, because he could not stand on his broken leg.
What the officer did was inexcusible, but...
If Artis only said "NO Officer, that is not my beer", none of that would have happened. But then again, it's his word against the Officer's word. And it's funny - right down the street from the bus station are two bars with sidewalk seating. So one wonder's what was really bugging the officer?
