Open Thread: These folks would have voted early.
BAGHDAD, Iraq (Jan. 30, 2005) – Iraqi citizens stand in long lines outside a polling station in Baghdad, Iraq, today. Millions of Iraqis throughout the country are participating in Iraq's first free election in more than 35 years. DoD photo by Master Sgt. Dave Ahlschwede, U.S. Air Force.
Note the apparently armed men on the roof protecting the polling place. Yeah, they were willing to risk death to vote.

How are things in your area?
We had a pretty horrifying bus accident outside my building yesterday. I constantly see people of all age running across the crosswalk against the light. Many times I see other folks following them, thinking the light has changed, with iPods in their ears or cell phones glued to their heads. This is the third bus on pedestrian accident this year I believe. Time to lead by example and NOT cross against the light.

My county (Harnett) has already had about 20% of our registered voters go to the polls and that's with only one polling place open 6 days a week and two other sites open on Saturdays.

Voting Stats in Orange County
All of this is as of MONDAY.
We're a pretty blue county anyways, but not this blue.
Voting from my precinct,
Don't have the countywide total vote count yet.

Flames of Hellfire and Damnation
Lots and lots and lots of voters in line at Pullen Park yesterday --- and I'm sayin' they FELT (mostly) like fellow Democrats!
There was a fellow standing out front with a sandwich board sign for Dole. Really sad. Inside the polling place, people couldn't seem to resist talking about the race -- though most were careful about making pro- or con- statements that would show their preference.
I say MOST because yours truly didn't feel so shy and gave voice to an utterance or so. That's when I realized that the oafish fellow next to me was a lost soul, a foolish, foolish person who was actually, willfully and with gross negligence of forethought fill in the WRONG circle on his ballot. I immediately pictured him suffering the flames of hell. So I smiled warmly.

So would it be accurate to state
that you were warmed by the flames of hell?
I'm trying to get this whole accuracy/journalism thing down. How am I doing?

Such is my natural frostiness
that thawing would require more than my just envisioning those flames licking around the aforementioned oaf's frame.
So, no, not accurate. Or even true!
But the excitement around Raleigh is growing. Today I was travelling near downtown around 10:00, and the place was crawling with cars, pedestrians, emergency vehicles, police, even fire trucks. In my dull-witted way at first thought, "hmm, I wonder what . . . " but when I noticed that some people had even parked in a TURN lane on Blount, I realized it was OBAMARAMA FEVER and that folks were just gonna park where ever they could! A friend let me listen to part of Obama's speech through his cell phone.
Dome naturally nailed him for a missed television reference. Barak referred to "Weezy" when citing Fred Sanford. Well, for god's sake, everyone and his cousin knows that it was to ELIZABETH that Fred would cry when he staggered with faux chest pains. tsk. OH the SHAME, Obama, the shame!
At lunch, people wearing "I VOTED" stickers were all over the place.
I don't know how any of us can stand to wait for election day.

"Weezy"
hahaha....did Obama really say that?

A Smut-Filled Tome
Poll volunteers please don't
Poll volunteers please don't be too pushy with your enthusiasm. Smile, offer voter guides etc. but don't turn off shaky Obama/D voters. There are lots of over 50 white guys like me that are planning to vote for Obama but many of them don't want to say a lot about it and we don't want the last thing they hear or see before they go in to the polls to be a negative one. We also need a good mix of poll volunteers. The biggest fear for the crowd I speak of is that Obama might not serve everybody, but have as African-American specific agenda. They need to feel confident that that is not the case. We've got a chance to carry NC for Obama and with him goes Hagan, Purdue, and our congressmen and lots of state and local offices.
I'm a moderate Democrat.
Who made that possible?
Just curious. Anyone remember who made it possible for the Iraqis to vote in an open election? Hint: it wasn't Barak Obama.
Wrong again, Loco
Barak Obama makes ALL THINGS POSSIBLE.
Sorry, couldn't resist.
I don't think you're going to make much headway touting George Bush's "accomplishments" here, but we'll enjoy your struggle.
All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing
-Edmund Burke
Do you really want to take credit for this?
NO, you are of course talking about George W. Bush. Who brought Democracy to Iraq.
And, he is of course responsible for the treatment of Christians in Iraq, since he is the caretaker of Iraq.
And, as the caretaker of Iraq he is responsible for the civilians in Iraq.
As caretaker of Iraq, he is also responsible for making sure the country remains safe and inhabitable for all of its citizens.
And, of course, as Commander in Chief he is responsible for our troops.
So, to summarize. Millions have fled. Millions are homeless. Christians have fled. Innocents are being killed by the hundreds of thousands. Soldiers are coming home dead or wounded by the tens of thousands. In addition, the violence in Iraq has stopped NOT BECAUSE OF THE SURGE, but because of this:

That is one of the new walled communities. With walls like this:
We've created walled cities where folks can't get to one another and call it peace.
Everyone is either fled, dead or locked into their homogenous neighborhood.
