Pat McCoal on wikipedia

As part of his plan to polish up his image (sort of like the plan to polish up the image of coal), Pat McCrory's minions have invaded the interTubes with a sweet little entry on Wikipedia.

After graduation, McCrory worked with Duke Energy Corporation in various management positions.

Too bad the entry doesn't describe exactly what those various management positions were. All I can find is that McCoal worked as a senior adviser for Duke Energy's business and economic development group. Which means he was likely responsible for helping to recruit big companies with big electric bills to jump onto Duke Energy's big coal bandwagon, thereby driving the supposed need for power plants like Cliffside, which will pump tons of greenhouse gases and mercury into our environment until well after most of us are dead and gone.

The permit allows Duke to use a conventional coal burning technology, locking in a commitment to outdated, dirty coal technology over the 50-year lifespan of the unit, as well as global warming, ozone, smog, soot and mercury pollution.

But hey, who can fault Mr. McCoal. He was just earning a living, right?

Hizzoner's dutiful double dipping

Reported by Jim Morrill, but found at the Duke Energy Employees site.

ome Duke employees privately grumble that they rarely see McCrory. Some city council members call his Duke salary "a scholarship" that supports his city business. And some critics see a conflict of interest.

Democratic rival Beverly Earle suggested McCrory's Duke connection might be the reason more solar -- as opposed to electrical -- lights haven't been installed on uptown interstates. McCrory dismisses the claim and says the city pushed for solar only after the state dragged its feet on conventional lighting.

Earle and other critics also cite McCrory's refusal this year to sign a U.S. Mayors' Climate Protection Agreement. More than 450 mayors across the country did, agreeing to cut greenhouse gases to reduce harmful climate changes. Democrat Jennifer Roberts, chairman of the Mecklenburg County commissioners and a supporter of the agreement, says McCrory's employment isn't "inherently a conflict."

"Certainly one could ask the question because he is employed by Duke," she says. "(But) that's what you get when you have part-time politicians."

Duke never took a position on the climate agreement, a spokesman says. McCrory says he based his refusal on language he calls "very political" and "unrealistic." He says it had nothing to do with his employer. On that and other matters involving the utility giant or its subsidiaries, he says he goes out of his way to avoid conflicts, often recusing himself from votes or debates. "I know where to draw the line," he says.

Just what we need. A governor who "knows where to draw the line" in favor of Big Energy.

Creepy

McCoal looks awfully happy to be seen glad-handing with the Worst President in History. I wonder if like he's running for governor so he can remake North Carolina the way W has remade the US of A?

The Dark Side Chronicles

Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory says he wants to change the culture in Raleigh. I guess that's why he wrote this letter to PAC lobbyists asking for their fundraising help. Change you can believe in? Riiiiiiight. Join the conversation here.
