Is this story right?

Over the past couple of years, I've asked readers on several occasions to help me understand Charlotte - to no avail. But now I'm thinking that this this story in the Charlotte Observer might help, if I can figure out what it says. The story starts this way:
Democratic and Republican Charlotte City Council members say they would support Mayor Pat McCrory's run for governor, if for no other reason than its benefits to Charlotte.
..
At least three of the seven Democrats on council and all four Republicans support him running. Mayor Pro Tem Susan Burgess said she told McCrory she likes the idea because it would bring more attention to Charlotte and get all candidates in the race to focus more on urban issues. But Burgess, a Democrat, said she's pledged her support and vote for Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue, also a Democrat.
Then the mom of a friend weighs in.
"Obviously, if he were to run and win, it would be good for Charlotte," Democratic councilwoman Patsy Kinsey said. "But I know that it would be difficult for him to run and still be mayor, given his dedication to the job."
Is the reporter trying to imply that Councilwoman Kinsey "supports" McCrory for governor? I've read the story three times and can't figure out who are the three Democrats the reporter is referring to.
Can anyone help me through this?
Title changed from "Questions for Charlotte" to reflect what I'm really asking.

I may be one of the very few
I may be one of the very few people watching Gary Pearce and Carter Wrenn on WRAL this evening (their time spot competes directly with the GOP debates on ABC), but Pearce seems to think McCrory would be a pretty formidable candidate. I guess that's not really news, but here I am watching the danged program, so I thought I'd dutifully report.
Wrenn is trying to say Perdue and Moore are part of the same culture that produced Black, which may or may not be true but he and Pearce seem to agree that the issue of corruption will get lots of play.
WOW -- both of 'em seem to think Moore would win if he were the candidate. Interesting.

Why the obsession with Charlotte?
First of all the article states that three of the council people support him running for gov, not that they support him for gov, two different things.
For example I support Hillary running for prez, I think it is good for the country that a woman is making a strong run but I do not want her to win the nomination.
I would imagine the three are Burgess, Kinsey and Carter. I really, really doubt that any of them would vote for Myers Park Pat though.
And why the obsession with Charlotte?
And another thing, there are a lot of us that live in Mecklenburg that don't live in Charlotte. There are six other towns here in the county. I happen to call Mint Hill home (pop. 15,000) and Jim Black lives in Matthews.

Obsession?
McCrory & Co., not to mention the story itself, are making this about Charlotte, I'm just asking questions.
From where I sit in Chapel Hill, it appears that the Queen City and its environs have a bit of a complex. And it's not just me. Expressions like the Great State of Mecklenburg don't come into existence out of thin air. (Of course, all this may be projection on my part. There are many days when I would happily have Orange County be its own country.)
More to the point, though, I'm questioning the inferences of the story itself. Anyone reading it would conclude that three Democrats support McCrory. You're splitting hairs with your interpretation, in my opinion.
I've just reread this
and it may be me who's splitting hairs. I guess I still don't know what "support" means though. Does it simply mean "he has the right to run so whatever is fine by me"
Or maybe I don't understand why it's a news story.
Or maybe they could have said, "Sure. I support him running, just as long as he doesn't win."
I don't think it's safe to assume
who the three dems are that would support the mayor's possible run for gov. The article is vague, possibly purposely so.
I'd be willing to bet that the editors or the writer just want to give the idea of McCrory running some play and show that he might have bipartisan support.
I also get the idea that the Queen city has a bit of an inferiority complex and would just as soon be the King city.
Person County Democrats
inferiority?
Or maybe the rest of the state is jeolous? Just kidding. Mecklenburg did bring the rest of state liquor by the drink.

Well.
I will certainly drink to that.

I like Pat McCrory
I support his run for Governor. I won't vote for him, but I see it as the only way we get him out of the Mayor's office. The Dems supporting his run may be seeing the same thing. Want Pat out of the Mayor's office? We pawn him off on you people. :)
Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.
Now there's an explanation I can get behind!
Wrong assumption
Charlotte? Problem is Charlotte does not understand the rest of North Carolina. That is the reason they never do well in State wide elections. Charlotte politicians running statewide always have the money but they don't seem to know how the eat Eastern BBQ. The divide between the east and the west is great with different problems and different solutions. Charlotte has a reputation of a City of Bankers and Republicans (true or not). I hope this does not come across as a rag on Charlotte just a good ole boy's outlook.
It's Charlotte - Who knows what they meant
My answer - it is Charlotte, who knows what they meant. I figured it was another reporter who "ad-libbed" an answer to incite interest.
Welcome!
We love having strong media critics in the community, and I personally am very happy to have another blood-boiling, anti-lottery advocate. We have plenty of folks who are just fine about the lottery . . . which is the great thing about most people at BlueNC. Not many of us appear to be single-issue voters . . . but that doesn't stop us from making sure we're heard on those single issues that matter most to us.
I'm very glad you've found us!

I reside in Charlotte, and the local Democrats I have met are disorganized and unfriendly. How does one mobilize opposition to elected Republicans when one alienates potential voters and volunteers?
