With all eyes on the U.S. House of Representatives, Patsy Keever is running the best campaign in the state right now. If you can contribute, please do. She's up against the execrable Patrick McHenry, a creature unworthy of representing any decent human being in North Carolina. Given Romney's spectacular meltdown, Republicans are already throwing in the towel. There will be no GOP coattails in November, and with a bit of luck and good poll watching, Democrats will take back the House. But even if they don't, Patsy Keever will be doing humanity a favor by getting rid of Patrick McHenry.
I read yesterday that safe Democratic incumbents in the House, folks like Congressman David Price, are sitting on war chests worth millions. Can anyone confirm that story? And if it's true, what the hell is up with that?
It seems the mainstream reporters in North Carolina have folded their tents when it comes to Pat McCrory. Too busy hounding Holden Thorpe, I guess. But hey, it's all part of Art Pope's master plan. Before long, the Puppetmaster will be calling the shots at UNC Chapel Hill, which means the Journalism School will takes its rightful place in the Art Pope Political Propaganda Manufacturing Machine. Within a generation, every reporter in North Carolina will be consistently regurgitating GOP talking points. Oh wait. That's already happening.
Speaking of Chapel Hill, the Town Council here is a mess. Whatever impressions you've ever had about this being a bastion of liberal anything, you can forget about them. The one area where you would think they'd hold the line is on environmental stewardship. But you'd be wrong. They're getting ready to rezone property in the Booker Creek watershed without protecting downstream neighbors from silt pollution. That's just plain gross.
My wonderful wife is retiring from teaching at UNC this December, and it's tempting to join her. I'll be 62 in a couple of days and she wants to do some traveling. For better or worse, though, I love my work as a freelance writer and am planning to stay with it for a while longer. So yeah, you'll still have me to kick around.

Ditto that on Patsy Keever
I sent her a small donation, and I think it it was money well spent. Wouldn't it be nice to have a woman in the US House we could actually be proud of?

Patsy is definitely someone
Patsy is definitely someone we can be proud of. She's opening an office in Gastonia Sat. Sept. 22. I hope many of my fellows Gastons will take advantage of the opportunity to really meet her and talk to her. They'd come away friends for sure.
I talked with NC-06 candidate Tony Foriest this
evening and was very impressed. He would certainly be a big improvement over that holdover from the Jurassic Era, Howard Coble.
