Report on Jones County Voter League

Yesterday, March 22,2008 the Jones County Voter League had their candidate’s forum. It was held at the Jones County Civic Center, between Pollocksville and Trenton.

All candidates from either party were welcome. Statewide, district or local.
The democratic party had the following candidates on hand.

Congressman Butterfield , 1st district
Sec.of State Elaine Marshall
Superintendent of Public Instruction, Dr. June Atkinson
Jim Neal, candidate for US Senate
Marshall Adame, candidate for Congress, 3rd district
Mr. Bob Eakes, husband of Lt.Gov. Bev Purdue, on her behalf
Dan Besse, candidate for Lt.Gov.
Pat Smathers, candidate for Lt.Gov.
Beth Wood , candidate for state auditor.
Robin Anderson, candidate for Commissioner of Labor
Ronnie Ansley, candidate for Commissioner of Agriculture
Barbara Garity-Blake , candidate for NC house, district 13

Judge Kristen Ruth , candidate for Court of Appeals
Judge Jim Winn, candidate for re-election, Court of Appeals

As well as several district court judges.

Wayne Goodwin, candidate for Commission of Insurance was unable to attend due to the flu.

Also attending were Speaker Pro-Tem William Wainwright , Craven and Lenoir counties , and Rep. Russell Tucker, Onslow and Duplin counties.

The republicans had one candidate attending, Rep. Pat McElraft , District 13, Carteret and Jones counties.

There were many local candidates also attending and speaking.

Over 100 voters attended to hear these candidates. After speaking was finished we all enjoyed a wonderful BBQ lunch.

On the coverage of the event on last night’s local news, a lady that attended said an event like this had never been held in Jones County. And even though this was a non-partisan event, the TV commentator said the democratic party was wasting no time getting the word out to the people. This is the kind of free media we need in this party.

These kind of events are very important in getting the word out on our candidates to the public. These candidates are always looking for a venue to speak and meet the voters.

If there is anyone on BlueNC that would like to put such a local candidates event on but need to have contact with the campaigns to arrange it, please feel free to contact me by private message and I will be glad to help you build your event.

If we work together, county by county, standing together, we are strong.
Boys and girls, this is where the rubber meets the road.

Thank you HLW

This sounds like it was a wonderful event. Look at all those Democrats asking for our votes. Nice job and thanks for posting about the event here.

Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.

Thanks for the report, HLW. We of the Marshall Adame campaign certainly applaud the great Jones County folks for putting this successful event together. We welcome all such forums to get the voice of our candidate and other progressive Democrats out to people who are hungry to hear from them and elect them. Please let me know, as Marshall's press person, of any more chances like this. We firmly believe that the more people who hear from our candidates, the more voters we'll get, because we're on the correct side on the issues and in the forefront of a historic march toward changing our world for the better.

It was a great time in Jones County.

NC needs more forums like the one held in Jones County.

Candidates who fail to make these events are not doing themselves any good service.

Thanks Jones County Voters Leauge.

Great BB-Q

Thanks to all the voters in Jones County and the Jones County Voter League for a fantastic rally and fellowship.

And...hey, turkey and pork BB-Q! Gotta admit, the pork takes the prize.

Jim

Thanks for coming

Jim,
the event was a success because of candidates like yourself giving your time to make it happen.

Thanks for coming and I look forward to seeing you in Carteret at the Democratic Women in April.

Hugh

TrueMeckDem on Myers Park Pat

"My opinion of Pat has changed over the years. I used to think he was truly a man of the people but the longer he has been mayor, the less I think of him.

As with most cities, Charlotte has three political parties: Dem, Rep, and Chamber of Commerce. Pat is definitely the puppet of the COC here. What is good for business is good for Charlotte and Pat ... very personable guy, he has gotten a bunch of Dems in these parts to vote for him but I don't trust him."
