Republican purity

The NCDP site has a blurb up about the incredible shrinking Republican Party in North Carolina hanging together to oppose the apology the General Assembly has approved for the 1898 racial hatred and violence in Wilmington.
Every single GOP Representative, with one exception, voted against the apology for a shameful episode in North Carolina's history. While the North Carolina Republican Party has not given any reason for its opposition, their unity in doing so betrays a calculated effort. Either the GOP does not believe that General Assembly has any reason to apologize, or they are willing to let partisan politics take precedence over doing what is right. Regardless, the GOP elected to oppose Democratic Representatives working for a more inclusive North Carolina.
They don't need to give a reason. The NC Greedy Old Party is like an abusive old drunk who makes no apologies for beating the shit out of his kids.
"Pologize? Who me? No way Jose. I'm the king of this got-damn house and I ain't pologizin for nothin. I didn't me kill no niggers. No sir. It won't me. An I ain't pologizing neither.

Speaking of the North Carolina Democratic Party . . . looks like we need to start digging up some primary opponents for the capitulators in Congress - and about two-thirds of the current members of the General Assembly.

What happened in Wilmington
impacted more than just the lives of those black Americans who were rightfully engaging in the political process, it sent a shudder throughout the rest of the state as well as the greater South.
The subsequent official (non) reaction was an added outrage, dashing any hopes of blacks pursuing the same dreams as whites, while encouraging future outrageous racist behavior by whites who thought they might lose a dollar or two in trade.
The apology is long overdue.
An apology
isn't nearly enough. I am firmly in the reparations camp with regard to both slavery and Native American issues.
Tolerance ends
An apology would constitute a form
of closure. Without closure, the GOP is free to pick at a festering wound any time it wishes. This suits Rovian politics of divide and conquer to a tee. Where they don't have a wound to pick at, you can leave it to the GOP to inflict one for the same purpose.

The rantings of a right-wing prof
I had a law professor go on a rant about how Rep. Stamm proposed an amendment that would have stated specifically about how the Dems were responsible, but how that amendment was killed and that the Dems sounded "funny" arguing why it shouldn't pass. As he said, "Dems want the truth to be told, but not the whole truth."
Having not read the amendment, I'm not sure I can argue. Now, I could state to him that the party did officially apologize, but it does hurt a little that the only people directly help responsible in the bill's language is (off the top of my head) "elite whites".
Oh well...
