Republicans refuse to run the country...again

Well, the Republicans have decided to continue to fail at running this country. Faced with a health care crisis that threatens our economy, a Supreme court and presidential mandate of finding a way to lock up terrorists, and growing problems in Iraq; Congress has decided to cut and run from responsibility.
(Follow me as I test the new fold feature)

Thursday at 3 pm, after 4 hours of debate, the House decided to try to ban Horse Slaughter for meat. While I applaud this decision, with less than 15 days in session left before the end of the year is the most important issue facing this country an effort to shut down the only three slaughterhouses left? And, if this is so important, why would it require 4 hours of debate?

We all know there are more important things going on. We have terrorists who have finally been brought from secret (and illegal) prisons to Gitmo that have to be dealt with. We have hurricane season approaching, with no changes to our ability to respond since we screwed up New Orleans. We have a war in Iraq that is falling apart. We have an "ally" offering the people who were actually responsible for 9/11 a truce that will lead to more violence against our brave troops. I could go on and on and on. Apparently congress cant though.
WAPO article

Instead of ranting about the important things going on, I will instead make sure everyone knows that Robin Hayes not only hates puppies, but also horses. That is right. Robin Hayes and Virginia Foxx voted against the bill to stop horse slaughter. If they had voted against bringing this to the floor (or some similar parliamentary move) that would have been fine. If they had voted to end debate early that would have been great. Instead they stood up and said, "Killing horses for meat is fine with me." I am so proud that they were able to stand up in favor of this.
Vote

Check out the list of those that voted against this, its amusing.

The "leaders" of this country embarass me. We wonder why America is becoming less powerful and then we re-elect these idiots.

Double-Play

This is a double-play for us, the Republicans show just what a do-nothing Congress they are (did you know they have met less days that just about any Congress ever), and they've pulled out another vote that is morally questionable.

exactly

that same wapo article pointed out that the original "do nothing" congress, which met for just a few more days than this one, passed about 1100 bills and resolutions. This congress has passed about 400. If they had worked at the same pace they would have passed at least 1,000.

Robin Hayes Wants To Eat My Pony

...would have been the name of this diary had you not beat me to the punch!

The weird thing is that the Agriculture Committee held hearings on the issue and referred it to a floor vote, but didn't recommend it for passage.

So why put this on the calendar with so few days left in the session if you don't want it passed, anyway? Perhaps Majority Leader Boehner and Speaker Hastert were trying to kill some time on the vote docket (along with about 50,000 delicious ponies!)

Hmmmm...I wonder what a Democratic-majority would do? Hey...I like that! New catch phrase...WWDMD?
