Restore our American Democracy

This morning has brought some interesting posts to the DNC's Kicking Ass open thread. I posted a response that I hope will provoke some thought and (somewhere, somehow) promote thought and truth to action. Herewith:

The thread started with still-more shocked posts at the Sunday bobbleheads who are praising the still-dead Falwell. I had to respond: Falwell? A hero? A man who committed daily sedition, trained moles to infiltrate the government, emplaced them in the loving arms of the Bush administration for the sole purpose of overturning the Constitution, overthrowing our system of laws and replacing our government with a twisted, Moon-soaked theocracy at which, naturally, only he and is closest adherents would be at the top? Falwell is no hero to any patriotic American.

The bald truth that he was a seditionist, an enemy of the republic and only escaped a proper hanging by dint of a dark and gluttonous heart that took him out too early for his just and deserved punishment. His cult-followers are equally guilty and deserve hanging as well. At least, that is what we used to do with subversivies, seditionists, treasonists and other scum who attacked the Constitution and tried to topple our government. Now, such nefarious activity starkly and accurately defines the Republican Party.

We wanted desperately to believe that such a thing couldn't happen in America, with its system of checks and balances. We failed because, while we trusted the system, we didn't do enough to support it.

This is what happens when cult-figures are celebrated in the MSM and the population is dumbed-down to the point of abject and sorry stupidity. This is what happens when Americans take their democracy and their Constitution, with its foundation and system of law tempered with liberty, for granted.

To paraphrase Bette Davis: One should never say bad things about the dead; one should only say good. Jerry Falwell is dead.

Good.

We need, desperately need, to go after these people. I agree, the first thing to be done is to kick the legs out by removing Gonzo and Cheney. Rice, Rumsfeld, Ashcroft et cie. must also be held accountable. The 2000 and 2004 elections must be thoroughly investigated and the criminality finally brought fully to light. Apparently, eyewitness to the rushed destruction of the ballots, as well as eyewitness to manipulation of machines thereafter wasn't sufficient. (What else in G'd's name would? I'm astounded that eyewitness to a coup d'état somehow isn't sufficient for conviction.) Video tape must surely still exist of the news coverage of the 2000 ballot destruction -- before the first challenge and recount had begun. There were millions of south Florida viewers. They've posted endlessly to blogs, but where is the MSM in reporting it? (Aside from Channel 7 Miami, that is.)

The extreme right-wing empaneled judges who were accomplices in the crime also deserve impeachment, conviction and jail for the crimes of subversion. The entire docket of the Republican junta Congress must also be repudiated and American law restored. The DOJ must be purged of Moon-moneyed and Falwell trained moles who attempt to hide under a thin veil of assumed religiosity.

The coronation of Sun Myung Moon in the Dirkson Senate Office Building (replete with Republican lawmakers) as "messiah and king of the universe" should have been a tipper to anyone who was awake and aware. The very notion sickened and scared hell out of me. The grand show, billed as a "religious" event happened in our own taxpayer-built government building. Not for nothing, Moon has given millions to right-wing lawmakers, right-wing "Christian" colleges and universities (Falwell, Dobson, LaHaye, Robertson, D. James Kennedy being notable beneficiaries). All of these latter ones preach right-wing hatred and are deeply involved in subverting the Constitution.

With full knowledge and complicity, the Bush administration hired these people to do their propagandizing, bought votes in Congress, allowed their students in corruption access to sensitive government positions. With their co-operation, a war for profit was started, a near-bankrupt Halliburton/Blackwater became not only profitable, but wildly so. VP Cheney has benefitted directly from this profiteering. He also allowed Big Oil to meet with him in secret to design America's energy policy -- that being a marketing name for the rape of the American taxpayer's pocketbook for zillion-dollar oilco CEO salaries and bonuses.

For some reason I cannot fathom, we're supposed to swallow that all of this overt criminality, subversion and sedition are somehow G'd's will. I have a feeling that such a war and profit god is not the G'd of peace, of caring for the poor, the aged and infirm Whom I adore. I refuse surrender my immortal soul to their satanic god of profit and slavery as adamantly as I refuse to surrender my beloved country and Constitution; nor my flag, nor my freedom.

In short, mainstream America slept while its foundation was eroded, its heritage and legacy of liberty and justice were usurped for the good of the few and privileged rather than that of the everyday, walking-around people it was designed to protect against the very, self-same form of subversion. While mainstream America slept, the enemy within grew strong and has come to threaten the very existence of the Union.

It's not yet altogether too late, though it is too late to restore our government and system of laws without a great deal of pain. This is what happens when a cancerous mole is allowed to metasticize and rot the entire body politic. There will be pain to endure and a tough fight to be fought.

But if we treasure the rare and wonderful heritage of American democracy, fight we must.

Beautiful Rant Rev

One that more red-blooded patriotic Americans are thinking but don't have the flare with words that you do. It is time that we all stand up, go to our windows (again) and cry out to those that would undermine our America,"I'M AS MAD AS HELL AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!" It is past time that we speak out, that we no longer keep quite and we take our country and our Constitution back. It is past time to start the purge of these criminals now destroying the country and the rights and liberties that our Founding Fathers blessed us with.

Thank you for your beautiful words.

No matter that patriotism is too often the refuge of scoundrels. Dissent, rebellion, and all-around hell-raising remain the true duty of patriots.

Enjoyed the phone call, Momoaizo

Domo arigato! We've been plotting to chat for the longest and it was a blast to get to talk with you at last.

Look, if we can awaken a slumbering American, even one per blogger per day, that's a major impact by election time. I believe that will be our last, best, and perhaps only chance to bring our nation back from the clutches of hate groups, corporatist leeches and K Street bought-and-paid-for legislation. Even common decency isn't common any more since the BushCo mafia stole our government. They've whipped up and misused every form of low-life: the hate groups, the religious extremists, the greedy and small-minded, the mentally lame and lazy who are willing to swallow anything that spews from the likes of Limbaugh, Hannity and all of Faux Noise unchecked.

I'll share a bit of our phone conversation with the commenters here. I related a story about how my 6-greats granddad, one Samuel Flake (yeah, I know :-)), who was an NC Regulator. The British fingered him as a proponent and activist for American liberation and liberty. They arrested him, threatened him with hanging and promised to burn his small farm, putting his widow and children out in the wilderness. He did step away from the Regulators, but his dream of freedom led him to give a portion of his crops to American soldiers. His wife and daughters made blankets for them. He sent his son with his son-in-law (my 5-greats grandfather) to fight at the Battle of Kings Mountain with my 5-greats granddad on my father's side with the Overmountain Men.

Patriotism doesn't have to involve actual fighting. Those founders made it so that all we have to do is vote -- wisely. Not because of some endorphine-soaked pseudo-religious wedge issue, but because we treasure the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. These, with a healthy land, are the only lasting things we have to hand down.

Will our great-grandchildren thank and appreciate us the way that we thank and appreciate the Founders? They certainly won't if we allow this hideous slide into a theocratic plutocracy to continue. I don't want to wear that on my Karma and I wouldn't like to have to face Jesus or my greats-grandfolks in Heaven knowing that I didn't do my part.
