Rocky Mount NC - Council OKs 11.5 percent increase (ElectriCities)

Although I understand where Commissioner Watkins is coming from, I do not feel the Rocky Mount City Council had a choice because if they didn't ok the increase then the city would go broke. If I am correct Watkins ward is the ward with the majority of the projects in place.

Jesse Tilton came to the meeting today to present an award and while he was present Commissioners Knight and Blackwell hit him with some hard questions. (Read More)

Try

Thanks for the links, Dancy. I couldn't help notice this quotation:

"We'll go to work and try," Tilton said. "I wish we could absorb that, but we'll look at it."

To paraphrase my friend Yoda from Star Wars: Try not. Do or do not. There is no try.

It's clear Tilton is a Teflon buck-passer who simply won't take responsibility for the job he's been hired to do. Pretty damn sad.

I am, if nothing else, a Devil's advocate.

If he said he would try, give him a chance to try. As the director of a much smaller organization, I would say a similar thing if confronted by angry constituents.

Angry, you darn right. We have no choice but to give him a chance.

Say the same thing and you will get the same response.

Darn right angry for a cause and not just because I have an attitude.

I too consider myself the Devil's Advocate because I have always spoke up for the less fortunate and those who could not be present at meetings. Heck I can handle my own but there are some folks who are less fortunate, not willing to speak up due to fear of retaliation and etc. and/or for whatever reason. I fear no man so I have no problem with "Standing Up, Speaking UP and Acting Up for Justice" no matter who it is for or against.

ElectriCities

Linda,

Jesse Tilton should have sharpened his pencil and tried to absorb the costs last October 2007 when he found out the rates were soaring but instead he waited to tell his board in March 2008 and they waited to tell us until the end of June so with all due respect he had many, many months to absorb it, fix it, make cuts, etc. This is BIG BUCKS and peoples' lives.

He was content to ride high while we all footed the bill. This "go to DC and lobby" comment is a deflection to try to blame Congress. I called several of our congressmen and their staffs said ElectriCities problems have existed for a long time and are not relevant to energy provisions being discussed there. I agree with James' comment that he is "fur ball" and I definitely agree with the Yoda comment. Work on it, fix it BEFORE you get to us and without us telling you to do it. The only reason he is in public or speaking is because the Rocky Mount Council jumped him.
