First, I am not sure that you can call the Siege of Petersburg and Grant's subsiquint victory, a moment of political history.
Second, the Army of Northern Virginia lost the Petersburg-Richmond Campaign due to inadequate supplies, not a lack of (misguided) will. This is certainly not the case with Romney. He has the resouces to keep going, I think he has simply lost the will to carry on a loosing campaign. He would never have been able to get the conservative evangelicals behind him in a firm way.
I would not count out the Huckster. Also, I am wondering if a McCain candidacy will give rise to a strong challenge from the right by a "third-party" run. True believers don't care about the consequences, so I see this as a possibility, but not a likelihood.

True! All of the above is correct! What I was pointing out was the retreat of Lee and the last bits of his glorious Army from Petersburg to western Virgina..

He has the money and I think he wanted to go on. But he got "For the good of the party ..." calls from real right-winger conservatives telling him to get his unelectable behind out of Huck's way. He may have been promised a cabinet position or some such.
Having him on the ticket might appease the so-called Republican base (though it seems like the base is voting for McCain, huh? Go figure.)

Huckabee would attract were he to be the VP. I think McCain/Huckabee looks like a possibility. Mac pulls in indies while Huck secures the evangelical south. That is if they could stand each other. And of course that ticket might just make quite a few wingnutters heads explode. Now there's a happy thought. :)
McCain takes it away~
Now the GOP can focus on full demonization of both Barak and Hillary.

General Romney Surrenders to Admiral McCain?
Romney Quits! Romney Quits! Romney Quits! Romney Quits! Romney Quits!
No doubt the fastest surrender in political history, since General Lee lost his ass at Petersburg to General Grant!
And so he drives away
in the dog-feces stained station wagon he rode in on.
I can't say I'm sorry.

Interesting way to throw away $35 million...
I guess even rich people need a hobby.
WTF.
If Huck doesn't step down, I actually predict that McCain is in trouble. Here are states that Huck can win:
I don't think all of these are winner-take-all, but he could still end up with a whole pile of delegates.

Could be, but I see him as a negative to the evangelicals that
