Ronnie Ansley hits the campaign trail

As many of you who I’ve had the chance to meet over the last year know, my campaign for lieutenant governor took me to every corner of the state. Making good friends across North Carolina was one of the most rewarding aspects of my run. Fortunately, those friendships didn’t end on Primary Day.

I’ve stayed in close contact with my fellow “down ballot” Democrats, including Ronnie Ansley, who’s running for Commissioner of Agriculture. Ronnie recently visited us at our home on Mama’s Mountain.

While Ronnie was here, I took him on a tour of the new hiking and biking trails we’ve developed in the Rough Creek Conservation Easement, an 870-acre watershed. Although Ronnie didn’t bring his bike, he was able to talk to other environmentalists about the importance of protecting our natural resources. As the town of Canton has learned, establishing a conservation easement doesn’t just ensure the safety of our water supply – it enhances our recreational opportunities and strengthens our community.

The Department of Agriculture plays an extremely important role in determining the future of North Carolina’s natural resources, which is why I want to see someone who cares deeply about our environment in the commissioner’s seat. Although the assorted Council of State races don’t often garner much media attention, the folks we elect this November will make critical decisions for our state. I hope you will join me in reserving some of your contribution monies, volunteer hours and yard space for all our great “down ballot” Dems.

Sherry and I are looking forward to hosting more BlueNC’ers here in the mountains. Please stop by and say hello whenever you’re in the west.

With best wishes, I am sincerely,

Pat Smathers

Thank you, Pat

Nice introduction to our candidate. I hope he'll find a bit of time to stop by and say hello. We'd love to host a live-blog chat with him. Maybe you can tell him how painless they are.

Thanks Pat

I'm happy to see the Ag race getting some attention. Thank you for posting this.

Since When is Campbell Brown My Hero?

Trying to get a straight answer out of McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds.

BTW: I'm glad that Talking Points Memo posted this excerpt on Youtube, but since when does TiVo'ing something allow you to brand it with your logo? That's the Wild West...
