Salon on NC: Dole & GOP in big, BIG trouble
There is an excellent piece out in Salon by Mike Madden about the senate and presidential races in North Carolina. You must go read the entire thing. Here are a few snippets to entice you.
— but it’s Dole who may need the pity. Polls show she’s likely to lose her Senate seat to Democrat Kay Hagan, after doing little during a single six-year term to distinguish herself. (Even the two years she spent as head of the National Republican Senatorial Committee ended badly — she presided over the Democratic takeover in 2006.)
Oooouuuuch! "She presided over the Democratic takeover in 2006." That's gotta hurt.
In any other election year, what’s happening in North Carolina would be just another case of a first-term senator paying a little less attention to winning a second term than she probably should have, and discovering voters had noticed. (Dole, who lives in Washington’s Watergate apartment complex with her husband, Bob, recently found herself on the defensive over newspaper reports that she spent only 13 days in the state in 2006...
Right. She was only here for 13 days in 2006. I guess she was too busy masterminding the Democratic takeover of Washington to pay too much attention to the citizens in the state she allegedly represents.
Oh...and there's more:
The Senate race might not wind up being as close as the presidential one. Even rock-ribbed Republican voters said they were giving up on Dole. “I don’t like the other one either, but I don’t have much choice,” said Joe Langley, 71, a retiree from Stoneville and a lifelong Republican who’s voting for McCain and — even though he doesn’t like her so much — Hagan. “I’m giving her a shot … [Dole]’s No. 93 on getting things accomplished.”
Nice. Very, very nice. You don't have to like her. Just vote for her. I like her enough for the both of us.
At this point even I'm thinking Mike is getting a little rough with Liddy, but he goes one step further.
As for the incumbent, Dole seems to be running a much more somnambulant campaign. She dodged five proposed debates, passive-aggressively failing to commit to them rather than outright refusing. Voters are seeing her on her terms, not theirs — her campaign Web site doesn’t have a public calendar of events, and her Senate calendar is three and a half years out of date.
Liddy's campaign is somnambulant? Ayup! It's a snoozer all right.
The title of the piece is Blood in the water in NC. It has gotten rough on the campaign trail and Kay's been firm about Dole's failing grade and she's landed a punch or two, but dayum Mike just beat up on a 72-yr-old woman. I guess it says something about my character that I'm finding this bloodbath so entertaining.

Hey, looks like they read BlueNC
Between your rallying about how many days she's been in North Carolina and my noticing she didn't have a campaign event schedule on her website, yep, I'd say we can consider ourselves sources!
; )
"You could say, 'Look, is this guy, Laden, really the bad guy that's depicted?' Most of us have never heard of him before." John McCain, following Clinton's strikes on al Qaeda camps
I guess this would be the appropriate time to say....
Kay Hagan has the most amazing press team I have ever encountered. To the very last one these are highly organized, positive, energetic, very professional people and it has been a pleasure to be inundated with press releases from them. :D
Y'all will be pleased to know that the Hagan press team treats BlueNC - not like we are as important as mainstream media, but like we are more important. They don't blow smoke, though. Not once have they hyped something that didn't have teeth. I like to do my own research and not once - seriously, not once - have I not been able to corroborate information in their press releases from an independent source or the primary source.
Oh...and it wasn't my research that produced
the number of days Dole spent in NC. I wish I could take credit for that.
Thank you
On behalf of Colleen, Dave, Sadie and myself, thank you to the BlueNC community and of course, Betsy.
We've been impressed by your commitment, thought and energy over the past few months. It is not just online -- its the help you are providing on the ground volunteering.
And of course having an amazing candidate to work for makes everything easier. We’re lucky to be a part of this team!
22 Days to go...let's keep it up!

can't wait to read the whole article at Salon!

My letter to the editor about Dole (R-DC)
Dole (R-DC)
The citizens of DC have complained for years about not having a voting member in the Senate but in reality they have had one for the last six years. Elizabeth Dole is the ultimate Washington insider, having lived in DC longer than any sitting Senator except Robert Byrd.
Much like Ms. Dole I moved away from my home state over 40 years ago but I would never claim to represent the people of Kansas like she claims to represent us now in NC.
It is time to elect a Senator who will represent us, the people of NC, in the US Senate and Kay Hagan is just that representative we need.

Great!

Robin Hayes lied, Robin Hayes cried and thousands of folks lost their jobs.
Dole (R-DC)
I just wonder how the people of DC feel about being represented by a Republican? I think I will ask my brother about that.

This is so exciting!
Hopefully I'll be hitting all the Cumberland and Harnett early voting sites with Hagan signs on Wednesday night, and then making calls for Hagan at the Cumberland County Campaign for Change HQ on Thursday.
Can we just take a moment and realize we will be taking back Jesse Helms' seat for the Democrats? And will be defeating Sen. Dole? I have to be frank...I did not think this was possible. The Hagan team deserves all the credit for doing all the necessary hard work to get to this point.
But it's not over yet! We all know what we need to do...
Will have to figure out the last minute things I can do to help get Larry Kissell elected, as well. That race makes me nervous, but I know we can win!
