Show some respect

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Third District Congressman Walter B. Jones (R-NC) this week introduced H. R. 3659, the American Flag Display Protection Act, a bill that would prohibit a school from receiving federal funds if the school prevents a student from displaying or wearing in a respectful manner a representation of the flag of the United States.

“Throughout our Nation, the American flag is displayed in classrooms and school hallways,” Jones said. “The display of the American flag by students should be afforded an extraordinary level of protection – and should by no means be equated with the treatment of those who choose to display the flag of foreign powers. School officials in this country who prohibit students from wearing or displaying the United States flag in a respectful manner should not do so without consequence.”

You'd think with the bazillion dollar deficit, the Replicant war-without-end in Iraq, and the erosion of little freedoms like, you know, habeus corpus, that Walter Jones would have more important things to do than pass legislation that allows kids to plaster Old Glory on t-shirts and ball caps.

Which raises this question: Just what does Wally mean by "a respectful manner" - and do we really want to burden teachers with the task of declaring whose manner is respectful enough, and whose isn't.

You be the judge. Respectful? Or not?

Iraq, Katrina, Poverty, Afghanistan, Healthcare costs,

staggering deficets, open borders, deteriorating infrastructure, exploding defense budget, private mercenary armies in America, NAFTA and so on...and so on.............................
......................................................................................................................
...............and the top of Walter Jones agenda in America?....Introduce a flag bill for high school students?????*&^%$^%^*?????............

It may be an important issue to the schools, but the congressman should understand priorities.

America needs leaders......Walter Jones does not qualify. (in my humble opinion)

More ignorance from Freedom-lovin' Jones

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In a House vote today, Congressman Walter B. Jones (R-NC) voted to condemn MoveOn.org’s slanderous attack on General David Petraeus which appeared in The New York Times earlier this month. After Democratic leaders had previously refused to allow a vote on the measure, House Republicans forced a floor vote which affirmed the House’s support for General Petraeus by a bipartisan vote of 341 to 79.

“General Petraeus, and all of the men and women in uniform who serve our nation, deserve our utmost respect and support,” Congressman Jones said. “The members of the U.S. Armed Forces are putting their lives on the line on a daily basis to defend our country. I am disturbed and disgusted that anyone would question the integrity of General Petraeus. The attack ad run by The New York Times was absolutely unacceptable and I am pleased that the House of Representatives voted today to condemn this ad in the strongest possible terms.”

I have two words for the hypocritical Jones, and they aren't, "Thanks, Walter."

Maybe he'll go on tv

and challenge someone to a duel.

I'm sorry. I've just about had enough of his nonsense. STFU, Freedom Fries. How's that for freedom of speech?

(Yes, I'm a cheap date. One beer, and the "f" word starts flying. Well, the acronyms for it, anyhow.)

I'd say the "Spread Eagle" one

is VERY patriotic! (Not!)

No matter that patriotism is too often the refuge of scoundrels. Dissent, rebellion, and all-around hell-raising remain the true duty of patriots.
