Stay Strong, Joe Hackney
The Dome and the Associated Press are reporting that the elation of homophobes in the House about getting their discrimination bill out of committee will be short-lived.
House Speaker Joe Hackney said he would use the power of his office to kill the proposed constitutional amendment defining marriage.
This is why we coaxed and cajoled and fought for Joe Hackney to become Speaker. A lesser man might have succumbed to the pressures of hellfire and brimstone spewing out for the mouths of family-value Theocrats.
"I said at the beginning of the session that we will control the agenda, and that's what we will do," the Orange County Democrat said. Hackney said he would send the bill to a committee, where it will likely die this session. The bill, which would bring to a public vote a constitutional amendment defining marriage as the union between a man and woman, must pass either the House or Senate this week in order to stay alive for the legislative session.
Fred Smith is behind this hateful legislation and his motives are not pure. He knows he has no chance of being governor unless he can rally the lunatic fringe to come out and vote against the faggots and the spics and the commies. He reeeeeeeeeally wants this amendment on the ballot in 2008 - it's his only hope.
Poor Fredly. He has met his match: a man named Joe.

It ain't over till it's over
But if Joe says he's going to control the agenda, then he will. He wouldn't be so definitive if he couldn't deliver.
I sent
emails to both Joe and to all the Dems who missed the committee vote. I hope that everyone will do the same.
SD called his office to say thanks. Please join us in rewarding those that did the right thing.

I will most certainly call
in the morning. The wackogelicals have had their day and they've had their turn at the tiller. They've driven this nation down an insane rabbit hole. But then again, this is what only could be expected from a group who can twist their brains around calling themselves pro-war, pro-death-penalty and simultaneously pro-life. The Jim Crow era is over and they need to get used to the idea.
I was wondering
if you were out there today. I was hoping for a well timed rant this afternoon to give me someone else's anger to feed off ;(

I'm way past anger
at this point. When it comes to wackogelical whack-a-mole, I'm down to grim determination. Me and mine weren't bothering a soul; keeping to ourselves and minding our bidness. Then the Phelps/Dobson/(dare I stir the undead) Falwell buncha Moonies had to take a stick and poke it in all our eyes. The like to talk about being "warriors for Christ" when nothing could be further from Christ's agenda or teachings.
They offend me with their misuse of Christianity; they offend me with their revisionist view of American history. They most certainly offend me with their attacks on state and the federal constitutions. Never once do they stop to consider the Red Letters, nor do they stop to think about who will be next when they create second-class citizenships. In every revolution of oppressioin, the ones who bring it about are the first ones to suffer the consequences. As known troublemakers, they will be the first to be expunged by the regime they helped to bring about. Personally, I don't care to be used as a human shield for those with no courage to stand and live on their own.
Their lazy and selfish agenda must be stopped every time they attempt to act on it. Bravo, Joe Hackney!

Kudos to Joe Hackney
It's too bad we have to deal with hateful people time and again. These outlandish bigots are a whack-a-mole operation; they simply don't sleep and will pop up again, attempting any maneuver imaginable on this matter to be able to sell it as "progress" on "protecting marriage." They want the fundie Base energized.
Just the idea of Fred Smith bloviating on the campaign trail about "the Hackney agenda" gives me agita.
