Stoning children?!?!?
This very scary article talks about, among other things, advocating stoning children, capital punishment for gays, and mentions some concepts I had never even heard of before.
This conference happened near Asheville last week, and was just wacky enough that it sounds like maybe some presenters were starting to realize how cracked they sounded.
I read some of the commentary by some of the speakers mentioned in the article (there is a compendium here). I can't even follow the threads of dialogue and thought, let alone the 'logic' used in some of those writings.
I was intrigued enough that I went and read a lot of Leviticus that I hadn't read in a long while, specifically the chapters 11-22 or so that talk about what is abomination and so on. It's interesting that in the same chapters that talk about not lying with a man as with a woman and not eating shellfish there are sections that talk about how if a man comes to your land from foreign lands you shall treat him as your brother, and not doing so is abomination. In fact that concept gets two long lines, and the 'lie with a man' one is short.

What I Find Most Amazing -
and I think you will, too - is that the laws of the Old Testament were written for the Jewish people - not the Gentiles.
And if you believe in Jesus Christ - He came to fulfill the law because no human being could do it. Never, never, not ever.
(Think - 'Get out of jail free' card.)
Stupid humans... wonder why He bothers, any way...

Where did you find this article and why where you looking for it?
That is by far one of the scarist things I have ever read.
In this day, for someone to say wow, lets do some public stoning, heck rocks are easy to come by, as hes plinking that unbeliever in the head. Or worse yet, because a child was incouragable he deserves to be stoned? What happened to being a kid? Where are the social workers and child protection folks on this nut case group? Gads, that is just wacked.
Funny how these people are using the 1st amendment and other constitutional rights they wish to abolish. Could you imagine if a government group went to that meeting and stated because your advicating overthrowing the government that this assembly is considered unlawful and you must dispearse? What would be the first things out of their mouths? U guessed it. Freedom of speach, assembly and religion. All things found in the constitution.
Whack jobs of this caliber are truely scary. Extremist groups discussed in this article are what give religion a bad name. Heck yea, I would be scared to have this group anywhere near me.
What also scares me is most of the speakers where public school trained (assumption), their children are not. Their children only know this language. Their children will only grow up knowing this information. Everyone else will be secular blasphimers only worthy of stoning. That is what these children will accept as proper punishment. They will also know that our government is after them, thus they will take actions into their own hands.
This is a Waco begging to happen, and it is going to happen.
Parmea, (I'm not a Mr., just
Parmea,
(I'm not a Mr., just FYI)
A friend of mine pointed it out on her personal Livejournal blog. I wasn't looking for it particularly, but the fact that it happened here, in this state, caught my attention.
Their strategy is sneaky and very well done, and needs more attention paid to it before they pull a Handmaid's Tale on us.
I don't know what can be done about it, other than working for free speech and social justice and teaching my child how to think for himself.

Seems to me
That the point is that many folks pick and choose which parts of Leviticus (and other parts of the Bible) they want to follow.
AND furthermore - it's got not a damn thing to do with the government, capisci?
That's Right
But ya know - it doesn't work that way. (Of course, that assumes they actually read it)
I'd say it's sort of like the law - you can't pick which ones to follow - it's an all or none proposition.
But then we get some shit like ol' Scooter ...
makes me wanna holler.
Let him out of jail - might as well let them all out of jail. What's the freakin' diff?
