Thanks, Betsy

Thanks for posting this, Betsy.

I'm getting them up as fast as I can

the program I use keeps crashing, so it is taking forever. Judge Ruth's is next.

Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.

I talked to Suzanne

(and Kristen) for quite a while at the bash. We need to do everything we can to help both of these girls win, because North Carolina needs their wisdom, judgment and experience in a big way.

Wow. How old are these "girls?"

A "good ole boy" friend of mine claims that women are legitimately called "girls" until they're dead.

What's interesting about this to me is that I believe the reason a lot of men use the term "girls" is because the use of the term "woman" has, for past generations, had a vaguely disrespectful connotation.

Since I don't mind being labeled, I refer you to a book by Marilyn French titled *The Women's Room,* which addresses this, and other social phenomena.

Watch it, girl. :)

You may be right about this.

I consider myself to be above average when it comes to protecting and cherishing the rights (both civil and human) of the females of our species, but I stumble over labels often.

I really don't like the term(s) "woman/women", because it has "man/men" at the root, and it reminds me of that whole "Adam's rib" mess.

And "lady" or "ladies" only seems appropriate when greeting well-dressed church ladies. Any other time it carries the slightest taint of prostitution, at least in my mind, anyway.

I fully realize that "girl" is supposed to refer to a minor female, but it pops into my head when I speak with a female who laughs or smiles a lot. I don't know. Maybe it's because I like them so much I want to grant them extended youth or something.

But I am open to any possible guidance in this area, because no matter how charming I think I am, the fact that I've been single since the Reagan years proves I haven't got a clue. Help!

I have friends who feel that way about the spelling

and they just substitute for the a or e & o when spelling it. Womyn. Wymyn. They still say it like it sounds though. :) Would that work?

i can't speak for any other women here but personally, I got bigger things to worry about than how woman is spelled. I couldn't care less that woman has "man" at the end. Doesn't mean anything. I'm still smarter, faster and stronger. heh. ;)

I've got friends who spell it like that too.

I think it's kind of silly, but that's how they want to do it.

Whenever we get into that discussion, I remind folks it's because man had to come out of woman.

I also like to remind people that Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did - only backwards and in high heels. :)

Oh, nice try at a save, SC.

Very nice, indeed. I'm not sure it will save you, but it was a nice try. :)

:) hee hee.

I agree. Definitely an A+ effort, sc.

It all makes me wonder if that snake in the Garden of Eden that preachers love to drone on about wasn't actually the devil. Maybe it was Adam. Maybe it was actually Adam who really wanted to eat of the fruit of the tree of knowledge!! Maybe it was Adam in the tree sweet talking Eve. With a sock puppet. Maybe he was using Eve as a cover so he could blame it on her if what happened in the Garden ever got back to the Creator. (That Mother Nature is such a gossip!)

sc, dear, I hope you've already

smacked your own forehead.

No matter what you guys call any other female friend or acquaintance, this professor of law and this Judge are women. Always. Women. Not girls.

I stand corrected :)

We need to help these two incredibly intelligent, thoughtful, resourceful, and possessed-with-energy-and-joie-de-vivre-which-belies-their-age women into their much-deserved higher-court seats in November.

Oh, Bravo, Boy.

Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory says he wants to change the culture in Raleigh. I guess that's why he wrote this letter to PAC lobbyists asking for their fundraising help. Change you can believe in? Riiiiiiight. Join the conversation here.
