Charlotte Observer Endorses Hagan, Goodwin, Wood and Atkinson

I mentioned earlier in the week that the CharO had endorsed Kay Hagan for Senate. They did have kind words for Jim Neal.

Mr. Lassiter and Mr. Staley lack the money and political stature to put together a convincing case for the nomination. Mr. Williams has performed outstanding public services in fostering programs serving low-income residents of Robeson County, but it's Mr. Neal who comes closest to mounting a challenge to Sen. Hagan for the nomination, though he, too, is hampered by lack of money for advertising. He is bright, energetic and would follow a progressive agenda, including an orderly withdrawal from Iraq.

Welcome Beth Wood, Candidate for State Auditor

Please Welcome Beth Wood, candidate for the State Auditor's position. From Beth's website:

I am a long-time public servant with 15 years of auditing experience. If elected, I will return the State Auditor’s Office to its former high standards and not engage in any private consulting work or activity that will diminish my focus on my only priority, which will be monitoring the state’s use of $20 billion in state funds and federal tax payer dollars.

The atmosphere crackled with the excitement of the upcoming events on our pathway to true change. Jerry Meek, the North Carolina Democratic Party’s Chair was the guest speaker and four candidates for office were working the crowd.

Bobbie Burrell, the outgoing President welcomed everyone, offering the candidates an opportunity to speak “a sentence or two” about themselves.

Time For Change in the State Auditor's Office

Today I received an email I've been waiting for - an appeal to help Beth Wood become North Carolina's next State Auditor. Having met and spoken to her in that most sacred of all spots, the ladies' room, I am convinced she will be an auditor with integrity and not use her position to promote political agendas. disclosure:My agency receives state funding and is therefore subject to state auditing rules.

Here's the really important part - in order to qualify for public funding, Beth needs donations from you and me. She needs them in the form of checks or money orders in small amounts - cool, huh?? Everyone can do that. Read more below the fold.

TrueMeckDem on Myers Park Pat

"My opinion of Pat has changed over the years. I used to think he was truly a man of the people but the longer he has been mayor, the less I think of him.

As with most cities, Charlotte has three political parties: Dem, Rep, and Chamber of Commerce. Pat is definitely the puppet of the COC here. What is good for business is good for Charlotte and Pat ... very personable guy, he has gotten a bunch of Dems in these parts to vote for him but I don't trust him."
