In Oil We Trusted, and through Oil We Killed

Welcome to part 5 of the series on Renewable Energy.
This next installment could easily be a stand alone story, but I wanted to keep it in the context of the entire problem. (especially in light of the Supreme Court's ruling reducing the penalty to Exxon for the Valdez oil spill - an average of $15,000 per plaintiff, some of who lost a year or more in wages)
This segment is about the human cost in blood and lives. I hope that your anger about what has been done in this world in our name, for the consumption of oil, will stir you to the necessity to GET OFF OIL NOW through an immediate change in U.S. consumption and policy.
Here is my interview with Doug Vilsack, son former Presidential candidate, Tom Vilsack and Iowa Governor. Doug is someone I met while stumping for John Edwards, and he was stumping for Hillary. After we met, I told him about the show I host and he mentioned this story, which although I had heard about it, could not believe the depth and scope of the despiteful tactics of big oil and the complicity of our Media, most notably, CNN.

Preamble to War?

Foxx, Shuler, Coble, and Miller have all put their name on House Concurrent Resolution 362 that expresses Iran's threat to US interests and demands that Bush impose strict sanctions.

Obama Kicks off General Election Campaign in North Carolina

Barack Obama kicked off his general election campaign in Raleigh, NC on Monday, an indication that North Carolina will be a targeted state in the fall. Obama delivered a major speech on the economy at the NC Fairgrounds, marking the beginning of a two-week tour through the state, focusing on Economic Policy.

During his speech, Obama went into full general election mode, launching a direct hit on McCain’s Economic policy, calling it a “full throated endorsement of Bush’s Policies.”

Joe Biden for Vice-President

This guy has more foreign policy vision than the whole Bush Administration combined.

Heckuva job, Mr. President

Today's Charlotte Observer has an AP story that should concern us all.

FED REGULATION
Revamp of rules proposal debated
Plan to overhaul financial oversight is set for release today

WASHINGTON -- In proposing the broadest overhaul of financial oversight since the Great Depression, the Bush administration has kicked off a fierce debate. It pits those eager to revamp an antiquated system against an industry opposed to excessive regulation.

A complete overhaul is obviously needed, and has been for some time. Sadly, it took the economic recession those of us in the middle and working class have been feeling for some time to start pinching the pockets of those with the ear of the President for the crisis to be recognized. But is the same Bush Administration that not only engineered this economic crisis in the first place (not to mention oversaw the Hurricane Katrina rescue disaster) the best folks to be consolidating powers on their way out the door?

BBC proves that the recession is actually a depression

OK let's review. Last Spring, Bush said their was no recession. This summer, 'a few bumps in the road' - this fall, "Stormy weather", now, well their might be a depression, but my tax break will fix it.
My opinion of these changes reflect that there is indeed a serious recession and possible depression occurring, but our news media doesn't cover the issues.
At least BBC has covered the newest element of our spiraling economy - Bush's own 'Hoovervilles' are here.

Is Impeachment Off the Table?

I sent another letter to the most heinous Rep.R. Hayes.
Not the first, not the last..may not even matter..
He would have to recognize the difference between right and wrong and actually "listen" to the constituents for it to matter.. big duh, huh..

Jan 30, 2008

Representative Robin Hayes
Independence Avenue and 1st Street, SE
Washington, DC 20515-3308

Dear Representative Hayes,

I support House Resolution 799 calling for the impeachment of Vice
President Richard Cheney. I also support the impeachment of George W.
Bush. As your constituent, I am writing to insist that you and the
rest of the House of Representatives carry out your constitutional
duties to defend the Constitution of the United States by supporting
impeachment.

And Helms begat Reagan...

Arguably, Ronald Reagan's Helms enabled win in the 1976 NC primary was all the encouragement he needed to try again in 1980, setting the stage for the Reagan Revolution and synergistic escapades like this one...

TrueMeckDem on Myers Park Pat

"My opinion of Pat has changed over the years. I used to think he was truly a man of the people but the longer he has been mayor, the less I think of him.

As with most cities, Charlotte has three political parties: Dem, Rep, and Chamber of Commerce. Pat is definitely the puppet of the COC here. What is good for business is good for Charlotte and Pat ... very personable guy, he has gotten a bunch of Dems in these parts to vote for him but I don't trust him."
