Judge Beasley's candidacy is official! The News & Observer notes the competitive nature of this particular race and so should we:
The filings in the appellate court race signal that it could become a competitive judicial race. McCullough, a former federal prosecutor and former counsel to the Senate Ethics Committee, is seeking a second eight-year term with the state's second highest court. He will face Beasley, a District Court judge from Fayetteville for the past nine years and a former public defender.

Cumberland County District Judge Cheri Beasley to Seek Seat on NC Court of Appeals

FAYETTEVILLE – Cumberland County District Court Judge Cheri Beasley announced today she is entering the race for NC Court of Appeals for the seat held by J. Douglas McCullough.

Judge Beasley said her experience and leadership on the District Court bench give her a unique perspective to serving on the State Court of Appeals. Judge Beasley has served nine years on the district court bench.

"My opinion of Pat has changed over the years. I used to think he was truly a man of the people but the longer he has been mayor, the less I think of him.

As with most cities, Charlotte has three political parties: Dem, Rep, and Chamber of Commerce. Pat is definitely the puppet of the COC here. What is good for business is good for Charlotte and Pat ... very personable guy, he has gotten a bunch of Dems in these parts to vote for him but I don't trust him."
