Treasurer trove

The race to replace Richard Moore as NC Treasurer in 2008 will be a wild one. At least three Dems who will be running (Janet Cowell, Michael Weisel and Chris Mintz), plus Bill Daughtridge and Dale Fowell from the party of greed.

I don't have a preferred Democratic candidate for this position yet, but I do have a preferred philosophy: the power of State Treasurer should not be in the hands of someone looking for higher office. It should not, in other words, be a stepping stone to somewhere else.

Called2Action

One of the groups that "Democrat" Chris Mintz has a history with is Wake County's Called2Action. Here's what they do.

EDIT: this is on a different topic than TarGator's C2A post; coincidence.

Indy Outs Chris Mintz

All I can say is thank goodness we have a paper like the Indy and reporters like Bob Geary. He lays it all out regarding Mintzs' alleged moderate claims and recalls meeting him at a called2action meeting a year ago along with other interesting factoids. No mention of the court docs we uncovered but that's understandable. WOOOOT to everyone that is spreading the word on this Chameleon.

Chris Mintz court docs detail breach of fiduciary trust,CONSPIRED TO WRONGFULLY/SECRETLY DIVERT 18 MILLION IN ASSETS

court documents DETAIL EDWARD JONES RESTRAINING
ORDER, BREACH OF CONTRACT, BREACH OF FIDUCIARY DUTY, VIOLATION OF NC TRADE
SECRETS ACT, CONSPIRED TO WRONGFULLY/SECRETLY DIVERT 18 MILLION IN ASSETS
UNDER EJ MANAGMENT!!

Due Diligence.

Some people say we should take Chris Mintz at his word, that researching his past and putting it under public scrutiny is somehow traitorous to Democrats, that I should be ashamed of myself for creating my web site. They are welcome to that opinion but I have no respect for folks that fail to exercise political due diligence and simply take at face value what a candidate says.

Mr Mintz makes a big deal on his website and in his mailings about being a candidate of trust and integrity and how he earned that trust while working for a large investment firm. On his website he says:

Repug Chameleon slimes into 41st NC house Dem primary

Cross posted from dailykos:

A classic battle is in the making here for NC house 41st district currently held by (R) Russell Capps.

Ex Republican Men's Club President Chris Mintz is running as a Democrat for NC House district 41. Why is that? Incumbent Republican Russell Capps unexpectedly decided to run for another term, so life-long Republican Chris "The Chameleon" Mintz switched parties to run in the May 2nd Democratic primary as a Democrat. Even though in the weeks leading up to his controversial defection he was still touting his strong conservative credentials. Now he is forcing a primary against a true lifelong dedicated progressive Democrat and DFA
endorsed
candidate Ty Harrell.

New website highlights Chris "The Chameleon" Mintz

RALEIGH, NC, March 15, 2006 – Democratic activists in Raleigh have set up a new web site highlighting information on the odyssey of Chris Mintz from former Chair of the Wake County Republican Men’s Club to the Democratic Party and to the NC House District 41 primary.

Chris pulls a Chameleon and jumps in a primary battle against long-time Democratic activist , ex Howard Dean Southern finance manager and AFL-CIO endorsed, Ty Harrell.

Mr. Mintz representations to the GOP shortly before changing parties, and his representations to his new colleagues in the Democratic Party shortly thereafter are troubling and cause for reasonable doubt regarding his true colors.

Mintz, the NCGOP, and Something About a Jedi

Remember Chris Mintz? He was the Chairman of the Wake County Republican Men's Club who announced a couple of weeks ago that he was quitting the Club, quitting the Republican Party, and running for the state legislature as a Democrat. Everyone was surprised. That story is here.

Today there's an editorial up at NC Rumors by the Acting Chair of the Wake County Republican Men's Club, in which he pretty much calls Mintz a power-hungry opportunist. The author, one Frank Williams, doesn't help his own credibility by bookending his piece with Star Wars jedi analogies, and he doesn't explain why he's such a bad judge of character. But Williams does raise some questions that Mintz will have to answer if he wants to be taken seriously as a candidate.
