Christmas

Thanks, from the Navy.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone. My Dad said if I wanted to I could tell you something here. I just got home last week from a cruise to and from the Persian Gulf and my Dad has shown me the stuff he wrote about our cruise here. I got to read what you wrote back and you guys are really nice.

My Christmas Tradition

Recently while walking the streets of downtown Raleigh and seeing the large numbers of homeless calling places like Moore Square home, I was reminded of a Christmas tradition my family had started...

Putting the SOL back in SOLSTICE (or Jesus was probably a Pisces!)

Put the CHRIST back in CHRISTMAS!
JESUS is the REASON for the SEASON!
It's not a Holiday Tree, it's a CHRISTMAS TREE!

Sad, isn't it?

H RES 847 - Because we have to pander to Christians, don't we?

Can you believe it? I bet you can. I actually bet most people don't really mind it either. But the House of Representatives voted to officially recognize the importance of Christmas and the Christian faith.

Christmas Trees for Carter

Roy Carter, a teacher and high school football coach hopes to challenge Foxx and Friends next fall. Carter, a Democrat who has a deep-rooted belief in excellence in public education, fiscal responsibility, a strong middle class, allowing American farmers to compete, and providing an end of our involvement in the Iraq conflict, understands the challenge of running against a well funded Washington machine as Foxx has. His campaign is one driven by citizens and not republican think tanks, PACs, and the Bush Administration...

Hillary can win the military vote in 2008

With another peace march approaching, I would guess that the leaders of the peace movement are quite excited to see if the President's low approval ratings and the low approval ratings of the situation in Iraq will bring a united call for immediate withdrawal.

At my university, I remember the early peace movement well and attended the few debates on campus about the need to go to war. What struck me most was the absence of any groups representing what I would think of as the middle ground or the mainstream. There were a few hawkish, young republican neo-cons who were dwarfed by a much larger group of hippy types and punks (I’m trying to descriptive, and intend no offense.) They were outfitted in their respective uniforms from Hot Topic or from the Salvation Army. They were also, based on what they had to say, completely devoid of any specific reasoning regarding the specific question of invading Iraq and Afghanistan.

I know I'm late but...

never the less: Merry Christmas

Happy Christmas everyone!

It's going to be a long night for this old man. I have to wait until daughter and wife go to sleep and then start sneaking around to find the presents I've stashed here and there. I usually forget something until halfway through the morning! Out daughter is 16 and still plays along with my Santa game. Every year I get to write her a "letter from old Saint Nick" which always thrills her to no end.

And Helms begat Reagan...

Arguably, Ronald Reagan's Helms enabled win in the 1976 NC primary was all the encouragement he needed to try again in 1980, setting the stage for the Reagan Revolution and synergistic escapades like this one...

TrueMeckDem on Myers Park Pat

"My opinion of Pat has changed over the years. I used to think he was truly a man of the people but the longer he has been mayor, the less I think of him.

As with most cities, Charlotte has three political parties: Dem, Rep, and Chamber of Commerce. Pat is definitely the puppet of the COC here. What is good for business is good for Charlotte and Pat ... very personable guy, he has gotten a bunch of Dems in these parts to vote for him but I don't trust him."
