Star-News endorses Hampton Dellinger

The Wilmington Star-News endorsed Hampton Dellinger today. Interesting that they've rolled out all their other endorsements (other council of state offices, governor, local race) in the preceding days, but saved Barack Obama and Hampton Dellinger till the big Sunday reading day right before Election Day. I think they feel strongly about Hampton...and Obama, of course :-)

Qualifications matter, because in the unlikely event that something happens to the governor, the lieutenant is first in line to step in.

Perspective

I lost a friend last night. The mental health system - not in NC, but in Oregon - let her down, and she jumped. Literally. Her spouse had to identify her after they pulled her out of the Willamette River.

Send Money Oil and Lawyers

Rob Schofield in the Progressive Pulse posted an interesting piece about the recent US Supreme Court's hearing on the Exxon Valdez oil spill. Exxon was hit with a $5 billion punitive award after being held liable for creating the worst environmental disaster to hit this country. Exxon is asking the Supreme Court to eliminate the punitive award. Their lawyer, notes Schofield, is North Carolina's own . . .

A question for Mr. Dellinger

Mr. Dellinger,

Could you please submit a statement regarding the recent to-do on this blog regarding Womble Carlyle and the idea that it should be denounced for representing Blackwater?

And Helms begat Reagan...

Arguably, Ronald Reagan's Helms enabled win in the 1976 NC primary was all the encouragement he needed to try again in 1980, setting the stage for the Reagan Revolution and synergistic escapades like this one...

TrueMeckDem on Myers Park Pat

"My opinion of Pat has changed over the years. I used to think he was truly a man of the people but the longer he has been mayor, the less I think of him.

As with most cities, Charlotte has three political parties: Dem, Rep, and Chamber of Commerce. Pat is definitely the puppet of the COC here. What is good for business is good for Charlotte and Pat ... very personable guy, he has gotten a bunch of Dems in these parts to vote for him but I don't trust him."
