Lipsticking a pig........
Submitted by Stan on Thu, 09/27/2007 - 5:21pm.Mike McIntyre voted for the Military Commissions Act of 2006...authorizing torture and the suspension of Habeas Corpus for "detainees" captured in Iraq and elsewhere. We all also know of at least one Canadian Citizen that was whisked away in an "extraordinary rendition" and held and tortured. Mike helped made this possible and legal. Now he's trying to hide from the facts rather than apologize. Read part of his letter below the fold.
Mike McIntyre thinks we have amnesia
Submitted by Stan on Sun, 09/23/2007 - 10:36pm.Leslie H said it all today in her rant about Iraq and I'm not gonna go there. If I got started I'd never shut up. But, I'd like to tell you about a letter I got from my Congressman. I went ballistic! Please follow me below the fold for an example of how stupid these people think we are.

Easley Will Not Run... For Anything
Submitted by George Pence on Wed, 12/13/2006 - 3:12pm.According to a report by James Romoser of the Winston-Salem Journal, Governor Easley says that he won't run for any office in 2008. About all he would leave himself open for is an appointment in some future Democratic administration. Responding to rumors that he might run for Sen. Dole's seat he said...
"I think I would find the legislative process frustrating. I mean, it's frustrating enough when you're chief executive. I just don't think the Senate would be my highest and best use,"
Destroying America
Submitted by Stan on Sat, 09/30/2006 - 4:15am.Abraham Lincoln said "If slavery is not wrong, then nothing is wrong." Were Lincoln alive today he would undoubtedly say the same about torturing a helpless human being, denying the right of habeas corpus, and trying, convicting and punishing someone without allowing the defendant to face his or her accusers, hear all the evidence, and answer all charges. Yet, Congress has agreed to permit these very things to occur to "unlawful enemy combatants" and "alien detainees."
Howard Coble has to go.
Submitted by Linda on Wed, 09/27/2006 - 8:21pm.One of the most important rights that our Constitution guarantees us is habeus corpus, literally "to have the body", or something like that. It guarantees that individuals will not be imprisoned indefinitely without being charged without evidence of a crime being presented in a court, and without charges being filed. The Supreme Court has "recognized the fact that`[t]he writ of habeas corpus is the fundamental instrument for safeguarding individual freedom against arbitrary and lawless state action.' Harris v. Nelson, 394 U.S. 286, 290-91 (1969)." (ibid.)
