Liddy Dole
Email from Mike Huckabee re: My Friend Elizabeth Dole
Submitted by jcb on Tue, 09/01/2009 - 10:40amNo links included here because I wouldn't want to be responsible for anyone actually contributing, but this is just too funny not to post. She was a travesty as a Senator "from" NC to begin with, and deserves all the debt she gets.
I have a favor to ask regarding my very special friend, Elizabeth Dole. The Nation lost a great hard working advocate for conservative values when her race was swept up in the Obama tide. The Democratic Party spent $12 million to defeat her in North Carolina and special interest groups spent millions more.
The Obama campaign opened 50 field offices with 400 paid staff and 21,000 volunteers, all geared to three weeks of early voting. North Carolina had the biggest increase in voter turnout of any state in the nation, a reflection of the huge amounts of money poured into the state.
Liddy's campaign manager: "Godless" ads were a Hail Mary

This month's issue of Politics magazine has a front-page story by Liddy Dole's former campaign manager, Marty Ryall. He admits what most of us in North Carolina have known for some time--the "Godless" ad was an act of desperation.
Many in the media, especially on the liberal side, were quick to point to the ad and claim it backfired, costing Dole the election. Nothing could be further from the truth. When a football team is trailing by 7 points and throws a “Hail Mary” on the last play of the game, they don’t lose because they failed to complete the play, they lose because they were down 7 points and time was running out.
Huh? That doesn't make much sense. It didn't backfire? Doesn't seem that way judging by the well-deserved reaming Liddy took in the local press.
Liddy Dole goes over the line

Liddy Dole just rolled out a new attack ad on Kay Hagan--one that, to my mind, went several miles over the line.
Let's see here now--portraying your opponent, who happens to be a woman, as a yipping dog. Am I the only one who thinks Dole just called Hagan a "bitch"? I've seen some dirty, below-the-belt attack ads in my time, but this takes the cake.
Liddy Dole hits below the belt

Does anyone else get the implication here?
New poll--Hagan 50, Dole 45; McCain 47, Obama 44; Perdue-McCrory tied at 46
Submitted by Christian Dem in NC on Wed, 09/03/2008 - 6:03pmVery good news from a new poll by Democracy Corps. On the Senate side, Kay Hagan leads for the first time in any credible statewide poll, while the presidential and gubernatorial races are still touching-me close.
On the Senate side, Hagan leads Liddy Dole by five points, 50-45. On the presidential side, McCain leads Obama, 47-44. On the governor's side, Bev Perdue and Pat McCrory are in a flat-footed tie, 46 percent apiece.
Insider Advantage--McCain up two, Dole-Hagan tied
Submitted by Christian Dem in NC on Wed, 08/20/2008 - 4:59pmAmid all the handwringing on dKos about Obama's shrinking poll numbers, Insider Advantage has some good news.
This poll was just taken yesterday. McCain's only up two, with 45 percent to Obama's 43 percent. And almost a week after the Saddleback Forum, no less. It hasn't been factored into the Pollster.com composite yet, but I'm betting this turns North Carolina yellow again (it's currently pink). The Senate race is a flat-footed tie, with Dole and Hagan getting 40 percent apiece.
Polling in NC: presidential race is a dead heat, but Senate race is troubling
Submitted by Christian Dem in NC on Tue, 07/01/2008 - 5:14pm(cross-posted at dKos)
Public Policy Polling confirms what we already knew--North Carolina is in play presidentially. However, news from the Senate race here isn't quite as encouraging.
On the presidential side, McCain only leads Obama 45-41--just one point over the margin of error. Barr gets 5 percent. Note, this is a Democratic polling firm--but as with the last poll from NC, from a Republican polling firm, there's virtually no good news for McCain.
On the Senate side, however, Liddy Dole appears to be pulling away from Kay Hagan. She now leads 51 percent to 38 percent ... and the trends suggest Hagan's got some work to do.
Logistics?
Submitted by Jerimee on Fri, 06/20/2008 - 12:05pmLiddy Dole's campaign is unable to meet the logistical challenges presented by Pat McCrory's fundraiser in Raleigh with President Bush. No doubt Elizabeth Dole is deeply disappointed that her veteran campaign staff were unable to provide her with the opportunity to greet our president in "her" state.
From the N&O:
Dole spokesman Hogan Gidley said she would not attend today's fundraiser.
"Any presidential visit requires a ton of logistics, and we have a busy schedule mapped out for the summer and fall months," Gidley said.
What are the logistical challenges that prevent Senator Dole from showing up at Bush's fundraiser for McCrory? I've created a list of possibilities:
Elizabeth Edwards & Bloggers Denounce Racist Ad Against Obama and NC Democrats
Submitted by NCDem Amy on Tue, 04/29/2008 - 7:18pmElizabeth Edwards Calls Racist GOP Wright Ad an “Assault Weapon”
Taking time off from her family vacation in Florida, Elizabeth Edwards commented on the GOP racist ad, “Extreme,” during an MSNBC interview, calling it an “assault weapon.” Elizabeth went on to support Obama’s decision to separate himself from Reverend Wright.
