Lieutenant Governor

Thank you!

I've just said this in an email, and I want to say it directly to all my BlueNC friends:

THANK YOU to everyone who supported my run for the office of North Carolina's Lieutenant Governor!

Walter Dalton Has A Posse

Which of you Raleigh-smart BlueNCers can explain to this poor mountain boy why the Sheriffs are all hot for Walter Dalton?

AC-T: State Sen. Walter Dalton plans to appear in Asheville Wednesday with Buncombe County Sheriff Van Duncan and Rutherford County Sheriff Jack Connor to promote his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor.

Dalton’s campaign said he plans to announce endorsements of more than 50 North Carolina sheriffs at the event at 11:30 a.m. at the Buncombe County Courthouse. The press conference follows a three-day meeting of the N.C. Sheriff’s Association in Asheville.

Dan Besse Profiled in Charlotte, Raleigh Papers

For those of you taking a breather from the Governor debate tonight, I thought I would mention the person I hope to be working side-by-side with them next year.

Dan Besse was featured in two major NC newspapers today. Details below the fold..

Show me your candidate's elevator speech.

Most of you have seen the following video of John Edwards talking at Gnomedex, because I have embedded it about a million times. There is a reason for that, it was this video that turned my attention away from local politics and onto the national stage for well over a year. In this video, John Edwards threw down the gauntlet to the Democratic Party. It was a peek at how John Edwards would run for President, with his head held high and with a lack of "weasel words". This is the John Edwards elevator speech for me.

After the break I'm going to show the elevator pitch that turned me into a big fan of another candidate. I'm asking you to do the same, show me the elevator pitch that excited you about "your favorite candidate".

We can act now to channel over $1 billion into local government efforts to improve energy efficiency, lower energy usage, and reduce fossil fuel emissions.

Nuclear policy ambush at the National League of Cities in Washington

It was an ambush by power company viewpoints at the National League of Cities' Energy, Environment, and Natural Resources Policy & Advocacy Committee this afternoon.

Dellinger's deceptive press release

Hampton Dellinger issued a misleading press release, dated 1/25/08, that is intended to make people think that he had the most cash on hand on 12/31/07.

LG: May the Best Progressive Win

Stop. Everyone, just stop, and take a deep breath. We all want a progressive lieutenant governor. And, believe it or not, there is no reason whatsoever we need to consolidate on a candidate right now. The reason we don't need to is the magic number: 40.

The LG race, candidates, and money

This started as a comment here, but quickly got way too long.

First, the pro-Dellinger arguments have been really vitriolic.

And Helms begat Reagan...

Arguably, Ronald Reagan's Helms enabled win in the 1976 NC primary was all the encouragement he needed to try again in 1980, setting the stage for the Reagan Revolution and synergistic escapades like this one...

TrueMeckDem on Myers Park Pat

"My opinion of Pat has changed over the years. I used to think he was truly a man of the people but the longer he has been mayor, the less I think of him.

As with most cities, Charlotte has three political parties: Dem, Rep, and Chamber of Commerce. Pat is definitely the puppet of the COC here. What is good for business is good for Charlotte and Pat ... very personable guy, he has gotten a bunch of Dems in these parts to vote for him but I don't trust him."
