Richard Moore: Taking it to Wall Street

I want to tell you about the great job Richard is doing for every single American: he's going up to Wall Street to fight for corporate accountability, fighting for tougher environmental standards and against corporate greed. Treasurer Moore is working with Democrats like Gov. Eliot Spitzer to bring a sense of morality back to the corporate world, and he's using North Carolina's leverage as a stockholder with a $70 billion dollar portfolio to work for these changes.

One great example is in Richard's fight against absurd CEO pay for Exxon Mobil's former executive, Lee Raymond:

Richard Moore Kickoff

I promised I'd give an update on the two Moore for Governor events this week, and after Thursday's vote in Congress, I'd rather write about something that won't make us angrier. Unfortunately, both of my digital cameras broke, so I don't have any photos from the surprisingly well-attended Charlotte event, but luckily the campaign has a flickr account with photos from Tuesday's kickoff event, and I've got the story (If you want more on the Treasurer's message, try my earlier blog post).

Moore: "Reform to Invest"

It's my birthday today, so please let me get away with a diary that I'm bound to update later. I was at Richard Moore's campaign kickoff in Oxford, NC yesterday, where right next to trays of excellent hush puppies supporters found an example of excellent framing:

Reform to Invest

UPDATED: Richard Moore Opens Campaign Website

The Democratic Primary for North Carolina Governor, which seems like it's been running at full steam for ... well, forever, becomes official today as Richard Moore announces his campaign. In addition to opening the campaign website this morning, the campaign will hold the first of many kickoff events tonight. There will be barbecue in Oxford at 5 p.m. ... and yes, I'm supporting Richard's campaign for NC's highest office.

Fred Smith: For Whom Tabor Trolls

source: Inner Banks Eagle

In recent days Nathan Tabor of The Conservative Voice has been spamming North Carolina blogs on behalf of Fred Smith State Senator and Gubernatorial Candidate. Tabor and Smith became enamored of each other last fall as Tabor describes in an effusive description that also belabors his own self-importance as a “blogger”. I caught up with this troll when he posted the entire text of a letter by Fred Smith “Time For Leadership on NC Budget” at exileonjonesstreet as a comment to an unrelated post with the plaintive cry:

Isn’t anyone in the NC blogosphere going to cover this subect? Am I the only one in NC to receive this in my e-mail?

No Nate. You are the only one sending this in your email.

And Helms begat Reagan...

Arguably, Ronald Reagan's Helms enabled win in the 1976 NC primary was all the encouragement he needed to try again in 1980, setting the stage for the Reagan Revolution and synergistic escapades like this one...

TrueMeckDem on Myers Park Pat

"My opinion of Pat has changed over the years. I used to think he was truly a man of the people but the longer he has been mayor, the less I think of him.

As with most cities, Charlotte has three political parties: Dem, Rep, and Chamber of Commerce. Pat is definitely the puppet of the COC here. What is good for business is good for Charlotte and Pat ... very personable guy, he has gotten a bunch of Dems in these parts to vote for him but I don't trust him."
