YDNC USO Day and Canvass
Submitted by Jerimee on Tue, 09/04/2007 - 5:49pm.YDNC is proud to announce our first state-wide USO Day, which will take place on September 8, 2007 from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm at four different locations across NC. This event is open to everyone who supports our troops and the Democratic Party. The purpose of this day is two-fold. First, we wish to honor our military men and women and their families through contributions to the USO. Second, we want to use this day to go door to door across NC to help turn it blue. We want to kickoff our 2007 Campaign Season with a day of service to the community and a day of service to the Democratic Party.
YDNC and the NC Federation of College Democrats have established five locations across the state that will have simultaneous presentations to USO representatives beginning at 10:00 am. After the presentation, we will switch into rally mode, where we will hear from various members of YDNC and from elected Democrats and those running in the upcoming municipal elections. After the short rally and lunch (which will be provided for all participants), we will have a Get Out the Vote training followed by a door to door canvass of between 2,000 and 3,000 homes.
Call a Young Democrat today
Submitted by Leslie H on Wed, 07/11/2007 - 10:51pm.and thank her or him for their work. Word comes today from Melissa Price [via Pat B.] that the Senate passed the House version of H91, Registration and Voting at One Stop Sites. The bill allows for voter registration and voting by Absentee ballot at early voting sites up to the weekend before election day.
The YD's made this their Legislative priority for 2007 and they saw it through. At the risk of sounding over 200 years old ...

UPDATED: Action was Needed on Same Day Voter Registration
Submitted by Sam Spencer on Fri, 04/20/2007 - 9:53am.
Thanks to everybody who called or e-mailed, both at BlueNC and on my e-mail list. Jerry has affirmed his position in favor of H91/S195, so the crisis has been averted. They got the message due in no small part to your lobbying, and it's a good bet that S195 will pass now that the NCDP is behind it again. This is a major legislative victory for the NCYD, and YDs across the state, including the new leadership that will be sworn in at JJ, thank you for your efforts.
So where do we go from here?
NC Young Dems back NC House Bill 91
Submitted by AndrewJacksonDem on Mon, 02/12/2007 - 5:20pm.Registration & Voting at One-Stop Sites:
“In-Person Registration”
Summary of NC House Bill 91 (Sponsored by Reps. Ross, Holliman, Parmon, Tolson)
Purpose: This bill allows a person who misses the cut-off for registration (25 days before the election) to go to a One-Stop voting site, show proper ID, register and vote. One Stop sites are open from 19 to 3 days before Election Day – the “early voting” period. All ballots in this period are retrievable (technically, they are “in-person absentee ballots”), so if a problem is found, the ballot can be pulled and not counted in the official canvass of vote totals. The State Board of Elections says the procedures in H-91 provide for “secure and accessible voting.”

Where I've been..
Submitted by Thomas Brock on Mon, 11/27/2006 - 10:28pm.I've been a little dodgy and haven't participated lately. I apologize, but it's been for a good cause, I promise.
Several days after the election, I took a big step in my role as a Progressive and activist within Onslow County: I registered as a Democrat.
As a Democrat, I thought I should attend a recent meeting of the Onslow County Democratic party (which I did). I was by far the youngest person in the room (the next youngest was a fellow in his mid-to-upper 30s). I was appointed to do several things...Among these are recruit young members to the Democratic Party, get these young members to become active in the Party and charter a Young Democrats group.
Any advice given will be greatly appreciated.
