Best quote of the bunch from yesterday's letter to the good people of the 10th District:

What we have in Rep. McHenry is a mongrel cross between a lap dog and a pit bull who appears bred for personal gain and political advancement.

NC-6 Heats Up + Patty Gets Flanked On the Right

Hat tip to the Dome:

CQ Politics is reporting some action in NC-6.

Twelve-term Republican Rep. Howard Coble has drawn what appears to be a long-shot challenge from Democrat Johnny J. Carter. Carter’s FEC filing indicates he is general manager at Williams Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning in Greensboro, N.C., and has seeded his campaign with $5,000. Coble, who had $626,000 in his campaign account as of July 1, has won his past two elections with more than 70 percent of the vote.

Democrats Deliver While Pat Makes an Obstruction of Himself

While Democrats continue to deliver on promises that put working families first, North Carolina Republicans pride themselves on obstructionism.

Here’s a quote from the Republican Pit Bull Patrick McHenry in today’s edition of The Hill:
Read it here.

“We shut down the House for nearly a week, forcing the Democrats to make public earmarks in the appropriation bills,” McHenry said. “This was an enormous success.”

“Shutting down the House for an entire week to make a point that Republicans will remember but the public won’t robs voters of action on issues they care about like the Iraq War, health care, education and aid to military families,” said NCDP Chair Jerry Meek. “McHenry’s constituents ought to ask if his obstructionism serves his interests or theirs.”

Monday Night with Patty

This should be good. Little Patty McHenry is hosting a live-blogging session on his own website this Monday night to answer questions from constituents.

Congressman Patrick McHenry today announced he will host a live, unprecedented Virtual Townhall on Monday, July 30 at 7:30 p.m. Tenth District residents interested in participating can visit the Congressman’s website – http://mchenry.house.gov – at 7:30 p.m. next Monday and click the banner located across the top of the home page.

Pat McHenry Roommate and Aide Indicted for Voter Fraud

McHenry's been running a boarding house for wayward boys it appears. This is all over the interwebs, but I'll point you to two very fun sources for more on our favorite Karl Rove sockpuppet.

Check out Pat Go Bye Bye for some background you won't find anywhere else.

Pam is all over this at The Blend.

NC-11 Republicans Try to Find a Candidate

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketPat McHenry, the little 10th district Congressman with the big talking points, came to Hendersonville to talk to dramatically backlit Tom Apodaca about running against Heath Shuler in November, 2008. Apodaca, an NC state Senator, had this to say, "I have spoken to former Congressman Taylor and let him know they have contacted me. I wanted to know his thoughts. He has not made up his mind, so as a courtesy, we'd stay in touch."

Lots of folks are waiting to hear Taylor say that he won't seek the seat again, and even old Bill Sabo, who never met a Republican frame he didn't like, thinks, "Republicans are trying to be deferential to Taylor but I think his time's passed,".

Tom Apodaca has conservative credentials as well as the requisite 'creepy' chops to rally the red-meat Republican base. This year he's cosponsoring S46, which provides birth certificates for stillborn children. Judging from this list of bills he's cosponsoring this legislative session, Apodaca spends a lot of time on teacher salary and school funding, Defending Marriage against the dirty homos, and increasing penalties for various laws. He sits on eleven different state committees and has a lot of monied friends to help him launch a bid.

Pat McHenry makes us proud

Today we have reason to be pleased and proud that we in North Carolina's 10th Congressional district overwhelmingly voted to send Pat McHenry to Washington.

Only his world-class sanctimonosity would have inspired this wonderful speech by Pennsylvania Congressman Jack Murtha:

When I hear someone stand here sanctimoniously saying: "We're gonna fight this out . . . " We're not fighting at all. It's the troops who are doing the fighting. The families are doing the sacrificing. A very small proportion of the families in this country are doing the sacrificing. That's why I get so upset when they stand here sanctimoniously saying "we're fighting this thing." It's the troops who are doing the fighting, not the members of Congress.

Click here for the video. You'll have to listen to Pat's initial comments like:

I am proud that the majority of this house will stand to fight and win this war.

But it's well worth the slog through a minute or so of debate-school hand gesturing to get to Murtha's response. Good job, Pat! Thank you.

NC Republicans All Over The Map on Iraq

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting"I am persuaded by all available evidence that an escalation of U.S. troop levels is not the way forward in Iraq," - Rep. Walter Jones, R-N.C.

"Some Americans and, perhaps some in this body, oppose the Iraqi operation because they dislike President Bush. I, however, do not march to that drum. I am personally very high on President Bush, but on the matter of troop escalation, I am not in agreement." - Rep. Howard Coble, R-N.C.

"Madam Speaker, where's your plan for victory in Iraq?" — Rep. Patrick McHenry R-N.C.

July 19, 2006:

“It’s like after Katrina, when the secretary of homeland security was saying all those people weren’t really stranded when we were all watching it on TV,” said Rep. Patrick T. McHenry (R-N.C.). “I still hear about that. We can’t look like we won’t face reality.”
