Greensboro City Clerk Attempts to Thwart Minimum Wage Effort
Submitted by gboroyoungdem on Mon, 12/10/2007 - 4:49pm.On Monday, December 3, the Greensboro Minimum Wage Committee (of which I am a member) presented a petition to the Greensboro city clerk asking that, in accordance with the City Charter, the City Council adopt an ordinance raising the minimum wage for all employees in the city to $9.36 per hour or submit it to the voters in the next citywide election. $9.36 is the equivalent, in today's dollars, of the purchasing power of the federal minimum wage in 1968, which is the highest purchasing power the minimum wage has had in US history.
Tell Big Oil to Take a Hike
Submitted by Jerimee on Fri, 11/30/2007 - 5:05pm.Rising gas prices is not just a pocketbook issue. It’s also one of national security.
That’s why North Carolina Democrats joined with veterans last week to encourage Congress to adopt stronger fuel efficiency standards.
And you can join us by signing this petition.
Our military puts itself in harm’s way everyday while safeguarding our access to oil supplies in increasingly unstable regions. Our diplomatic leverage becomes compromised when the wealth we transfer to these regions in oil revenues is used to fund terrorism and support extremist ideologies.
But it doesn’t have to be this way.

Spruce Pine Mayor Advocates Unconstitutional Ballot Access Restrictions
Submitted by JGreene on Mon, 10/29/2007 - 12:13pm.Many have excitedly embraced the chance to extend to Bryan Greene his constitutional freedom to run for public office and to have his name printed on the ballot, although the state has wrongfully restricted him. Yet, unlike most individuals, such as the Spruce Pine candidate for Town Council who signed Mr. Greene’s petition, who support the right to the ballot as a basic freedom, there are those who refuse to support Bryan’s right to be on the ballot. The most notable of these very few individuals, is the mayor of Spruce Pine, Mr. Wes Foy, who refused to sign Mr. Greene’s petition

Draft Brad Miller petition
Submitted by Blue South on Wed, 01/24/2007 - 2:46pm.On the morning of Tuesday, January 23rd the netroots movement to convince Brad Miller to run for United States Senate was launched. The first diary was well received, leading to over three hundred dollars in donations. While this might seem like a small amount of money, it was enough to put us on the top 5 of ActBlue’s “hottest pages.” Whenever a potential Senate candidate can raise as much money on ActBlue as a real presidential candidate in one day you know that things could get going real quick.

Please sign this open letter to NC voters.
