How would a leader have handled the debate last night?

Democratic Debate Open Thread

Tonight the grownup will not be in the room. John Edwards is at the Carolina v. Boston College game with his daughter Cate. The first debate without JRE brings all sorts of questions to mind. Will Clinton and Obama get snippy with each other? Will the debate have any substance? Will the pundits annoy the ever loving daylights out of us? Will I actually start liking one of the remaining candidates? Does it matter? The nominee will be selected long before our primary in North Carolina and I will most certainly vote for the eventual nominee. I don't have to like him or her.

So, let the debate begin. Maybe, just maybe those of us who are undecided or who don't think we like either one will get a chance to see something new tonight. I hope so.

Keith O is saying, "It's the stupid economy". The economy has overtaken the war in Iraq as the number one concern of many voters. Who is positioned to capitalize on this shift in the priorities of the American people?

Maybe their answers tonight will clear things up for those who haven't decided.

Which Republican will carry Michigan? Will Kos's endorsement push Romney over the top in the mitten state?

Republicans, failed us on 9/11, failed us in Afghanistan, failed us in Iraq, vowing to torture in the future

Let's not mince words here. Democrats left office saying that we needed to worry about terrorism, that we needed to worry about Osama bin Laden. The Republicans dropped the ball, 9/11 happened on their watch, and they have done nothing to make our country more safe. Port security, nada. Food security, nada. Airline security, what a joke. We are no more safe today than we were on 9/10/2001. Remember that Osama waited over six years between attacks on U.S. soil - that means we haven't averted ANYTHING. The next attack should be coming anytime now, six years after 9/11/2001. And, we are no more safe. But, don't worry, even though they can't protect us, they are more than willing to stoop to the level of our enemies and torture those who MIGHT be responsible. In fact, they embrace torture.

"My opinion of Pat has changed over the years. I used to think he was truly a man of the people but the longer he has been mayor, the less I think of him.

As with most cities, Charlotte has three political parties: Dem, Rep, and Chamber of Commerce. Pat is definitely the puppet of the COC here. What is good for business is good for Charlotte and Pat ... very personable guy, he has gotten a bunch of Dems in these parts to vote for him but I don't trust him."
