Richard Burr

Think about this, North Carolina

Our two US Senators voted for a tax bill that neither had read. Nor had either of their staffs. The bill was written by lobbyists for Mitch McConnell, who also has not read the bill. And to think that we, the citizens of North Carolina, are paying these clowns to represent us. They should be sued for failing to uphold their oaths of office.

Tillis MIA too

Richard Burr is rightfully getting skewered for allowing our democracy to be held ransom to Russian oligarchs, but don't forget there's another senator supposedly representing North Carolina, Thom Tillis. Though a lightweight in his first term, Tillis is nonetheless a United States Senator, and as such, has enormous power should he choose to exercise it.

Burr isn't just an incompetent slacker, he's also corrupt

For years friends have told me that Senator Richard Burr is a nice guy. They characterized him as an affable frat boy, proud of not wearing socks. They said he'd never do anything of importance, but that he would be a good soldier, for the most part, and toe the party line. No one ever said he'd prove to be a corrupt lap dog to the most dishonest president in history. But that's what he is.

Dear historians

Looking back on America in the early 21st century, it's clear that one of the great near-misses for democracy was the short-lived presidency of Donald Trump. A con man through and through, Trump flaunted his power like cokehead tweeting porn at three in the morning, daring anyone to challenge him.

Calling Senator Burr ... again

Let me make sure I understand this.

Senator Burr is the chair of the Senate Special Committee on Intelligence (how's that for an oxymoron?). That committee held secret meetings in December and reported no evidence or concern about Russian involvement in US affairs. Yesterday, one of Cheeto's top military men resigned after it was learned that he had extensive and illegal contact with Russians during the course of the campaign. It looks to me like Mr. Burr is part of the cover-up.

Dear Senator Burr:

Well, we're quickly coming to the end of the line. King Donald has all but shredded our Constitution, while delivering a healthy dose of "screw you" to Congress and the Courts. Short of assassination, there's not much standing in the way of a complete and insane takeover of our faltering nation. American carnage, it turns out, was an apt descriptor for the world in which we live.

Only a few people are in a position to stop this reign of terror. You are one of them. This is the time to step up, sir, for it will soon be too late.

Do the right thing. We're begging you.
