Rory Blake - Rally -A-Day NC-06

Rory Blake, Democratic Candidate for US Congress for NC-06 is holding a rally-a-day, every day until the election (except Sunday) to express his views and give the voters in this widespread district a chance to gather one last time to support him and each other.

Blake feels strongly that: “We need to elect a democratic congress, both to stop the missuse of the power of the federal government and to stop the war in Iraq.”

The rally will be held at noon in the county seat of every county represented in the sixth district, beginning in Carthage in Moore County on Tuesday, October 31st and finishing in Greensboro on Monday, November 6th. Full rally details will be posted on Rory's website at by 3:00 on Monday. Please join us - let your voice be heard, and help send Howard Coble home for good!

The Rightwingnut Strategy of Hypersexualizing LGBT People Claims Another Victory

Here's another example of how the right-wing strategy of taking over school boards is impacting vulnerable populations.

In Rowan County last night, the school board unanimously voted to ban Gay-Straight Alliances by declaring them sex-clubs.

Cross-post from my blog. My earlier post is here.

In Rowan, GOP Stands for Grand Old Parasites

Wow. I didn’t know that being the party of limited government meant standing up for waterborne bacteria. Here in Rowan, our state and local elected officials have declined to endorse the Clean Water Bonds. They're worried that the bulk of the money will go down east.

Well, so what? I have relatives in Brunswick County. I don’t begrudge them clean water any more than I do my own family. Besides, many Rowan residents vacation down east. Guess from now on, I’ll have to pick up some bottles of Evian in addition to suntan lotion before we make a road trip to the beach, to prevent both sunburn and typhoid.

Rowan County Don't Like the Queers

The Rowan-Salisbury school board turned down a student's application to form a chapter of the Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) at the school. Matt Hill has been doing a great job covering the story on his blog (original post; follow-up). I'll only add that, under the federal Equal Access Act, whether the school has created a "limited open forum" by allowing other non-curricular groups to form. If so, they pretty much have to let the GSA form—Congress said so.

I couldn't find a list of clubs and organizations on the South Rowan High website, but here's why the school board said they denied the application:
