The Winston-Salem Journal Endorses Dan Besse for Lt. Governor and Roy Carter in the 5th!

From the Winston-Salem Journal this morning:

DAN BESSE

A lawyer, Besse spent a number of years lobbying in Raleigh on issues related to the environment, poverty and health-care access, so he knows the legislative process.

Besse also has a good mix of state and local government experience. For 20 years, he served on important state commissions that oversee, among other things, environmental and coastal regulation, and he’s now in his seventh year on the Winston-Salem City Council. He’s a hardworking, accessible councilman known for his reasoned responses to issues. He can use the lieutenant governor’s office as a bully pulpit for the issues about which he has been most passionate in his career of public service - the environment and access to health-insurance coverage for North Carolinians.

Mountain Top Removal

I grew up in the majestic mountains of Western North Carolina and I raised my children to love and respect our environmental heritage. Mountains have always held a special meaning for my family and for the people of the fifth district.

Foxx on Health Care

Foxx replied as she often does, throwing numbers into an equation attempting to validate her stances and to justify her voting record.

Frontpaged, though the title might be better phrased "Foxx on Not Health Care." Thanks for staying up late to write this.

Ethics?? We Don't Need No Stinking Ethics!!!

The House narrowly approved a new ethics rule to create an independent office that would consider ethics complaints against House members.

Rep. Virginia Foxx voted No.

On the Trail: Puck Drop

After a long week of campaigning three (awesome) candidates wrap it up in Winston Salem. Roy Carter, Jim Neal and Dan Besse converged at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum to drop the puck for Ice Wars, the 9th annual charity hockey game organized to raise funds for the Special Olympics.

I took along my boys, Nathan and Alex, who were happy to help me campaign for Coach Carter (gotta raise them right!). They are good little politicians and especially had fun chucking ducks at Jim Neal.

Here are some photos from the event!

TrueMeckDem on Myers Park Pat

"My opinion of Pat has changed over the years. I used to think he was truly a man of the people but the longer he has been mayor, the less I think of him.

As with most cities, Charlotte has three political parties: Dem, Rep, and Chamber of Commerce. Pat is definitely the puppet of the COC here. What is good for business is good for Charlotte and Pat ... very personable guy, he has gotten a bunch of Dems in these parts to vote for him but I don't trust him."
