On Thursday night, July 31st, I had the honor and privilege to join a diverse group of North Carolinians supporting Bev Perdue for Governor of North Carolina as she visited Stanly County.

No fewer than 200 folks - not just Democrats by the way - all convened at Bill Mullinix's pastoral farm off of U.S. Highway 52 between Albemarle and Richfield.

Concerned citizens of North Carolina, act NOW to save your water rights. The N.C. Division of Water Quality is seeking public comments regarding an application for a water quality certificate for the hydroelectric power plant on the Yadkin River.

Anyone living in North Carolina knows that the entire state is facing drought conditions which are not going away anytime soon. To combat this situation, the state is urging municipalities to consider allocating and transferring water resources to meet the needs of customers.

I recently had the opportunity to work with a wonderful woman and NC Democrat, June Mabry. She's the chair of the Stanly County Democratic Party and an amazing organizer. She and her fellow Democratic volunteers in Stanly County worked hard to produce one of the best GOTV efforts seen in the county by the Democratic party. On top of this she serves as the first vice chair of the 8th Congressional District.

She worked in communications with a Fortune 500 as communications manager. June worked in politics on the statewide and national level for 13 years before taking a self-imposed sabatical. She's back and Republicans should be quaking in their shoes.

Albemarle is the county seat of Stanly County, recently sharing the spotlight with the American Idol star, Kelly Pickler. Albemarle was formed in 1842 when the Hearne family donated their land and it was divided up into plots for the new town. Too many people only know of the Albemarle along 24/27, the Albemarle Road to Charlotte. Get off the beaten path and go downtown and you will find a pretty little town that seems to have made all the right planning choices. Their streets are wide with minimal traffic. There is plenty of parking and the shops that line the streets are locally owned.
