Ideas for redistricting North Carolina

(cross-posted at dKos)

Recently, I started wondering how to handle redrawing North Carolina's congressional districts. After all, this state is turning bluer by the minute, and we've got one (and perhaps two) relatively new Dem congressmen to protect. Something else to consider--two of our districts look VERY vulnerable to Repub takeover once the current incuments retire. So here's my idea for redistricting North Carolina in a few years ... feel free to quibble.

NC-03: Weber tosses hat back into ring for NC-03's Democratic Nomination

Cross-posted at the Brock Log.

In an email today, Craig Weber tossed his hat into the ring for the nomination to challenge Republican Congressman Walter B. Jones, Jr. ('cuz, really, who thinks Holy Joe McLaughlin is going to win that primary?) in 2008.

Says Weber in the email to many of Eastern North Carolina's Democratic politicos:

Joe McLaughlin’s Monday Morning Memo

Onslow Commissioner, and Republican Congressional candidate, Joe McLaughlin writes a "Monday Morning Memo" each week. This week, McLaughlin takes aim at Congressman Walter B. Jones, Jr.'s vote on the "Protect America Act" or Senate Bill 1927.

Says McLaughlin in his Monday Morning Memo:

Congressman Jones, Jr. To NC-03: "I don’t want to talk to you!"

It's the August recess for Congress and members everywhere are back "in the district" and meeting with their constituents.

Well...

Almost everyone.

The Gentleman from North Carolina's Third Congressional District will not be meeting with constituents.

I know because I tried to find out...

First, I visited his campaign's website's events list. Don't worry, it's not you, it really is blank.

Republicans shout down the House, McHenry spews

After I left Capitol Hill yesterday, all hell broke loose over denying welfare to illegal aliens. Republicans started screaming. McHenry calls Democrats "cheats" and talks about illegals like they're lepers. It's hilarious. Deiphilus has all the video.

Adame for Congress

Cross-posted at the Brock Log.

In a long discussion with Marshall Adame, he and I have decided that the best way I can serve his campaign is from the outside. There are many factors to this decision, none of which require public scrutiny.

I whole-heartedly support Marshall's candidacy and will work tirelessly from outside the campaign to ensure that he is elected as NC-03's next Congressman.

Bring Our Troops Home and Iraq Sovereignty Act of 2007

Please call your House member quickly and ask that they support the "Bring Our Troops Home and Iraq Sovereignty Restoration Act of 2007", which has just been introduced by Congresswomen Lynn Woolsey, Maxine Waters, and Barbara Lee.
This is Congresswoman Woolsey's description of the bill in her diary on Daily Kos:

Congressman Walter B. Jones, Jr - Against Surging Plan

Cross-posted from the Brock Log and the Onslow County Politics Web-log.

Last week I emailed Congressman Walter B. Jones, Jr's office requesting his view of the President's plan to surge military forces into Iraq.

I wrote.

President Bush is rumored to enlarge the military presence in Iraq by sending between 20,000 and 40,000 additional troops. Military commanders have not requested the additional military support and have stated that such a large presence will cause more harm than good. In the past, President Bush has stated that troop levels are established by the military commanders not by political decision-making.

It is evident that the President has changed his process in deciding troop levels and has moved to replace Army Generals Abizaid and Casey (the senior military commanders in Iraq).

Does Congressman Jones agree with the President's political decision (made against recommendation of the military commanders) to enlarge the military presence in Iraq?

And Helms begat Reagan...

Arguably, Ronald Reagan's Helms enabled win in the 1976 NC primary was all the encouragement he needed to try again in 1980, setting the stage for the Reagan Revolution and synergistic escapades like this one...

TrueMeckDem on Myers Park Pat

"My opinion of Pat has changed over the years. I used to think he was truly a man of the people but the longer he has been mayor, the less I think of him.

As with most cities, Charlotte has three political parties: Dem, Rep, and Chamber of Commerce. Pat is definitely the puppet of the COC here. What is good for business is good for Charlotte and Pat ... very personable guy, he has gotten a bunch of Dems in these parts to vote for him but I don't trust him."
