Taking Action on Global Warming (listen live at 9am Thursday)

A few weeks ago I live blogged here on BlueNC. One of the hot topics was the possibility of a renewable energy portfolio standard (REPS) in North Carolina. REPS would require utilities in our state to get a certain percentage of energy from renewable energy sources. Reps. Pricey Harrison, Jim Harrell, Carolyn Justice and I introduced a bill (HB77) that will do just that, along with some energy conservation measures. Sen. Charlie Albertson has filed a similar bill in the Senate.
Thursday morning at 9am we're holding a press conference to talk about the bill and also to deliver some bad news that makes the need for the bill even more compelling. You can pick up the live feed over the internet here.

But, A, I thought we were in the Spring of an off year. I keep trying to take a few days off the internets tubes and then I get slammed with something new that seems just as important as the last thing I interrupted my "vacation" to fuss over.

The press conference was shifted to 9:30. Very sorry to lead you astray.
Here's a condensed version of what we discussed. A just-released study revealed that from 1990 to 2004 global warming pollution increased by 36% in NC. That makes us 4th in the nation in the level of carbon dioxide emission increases. So, the case for REPS is even stronger that the day we introduced HB77.

Both Grier Martin and Brad Miller were staying busy tonight meeting at a fundraiser for Raleigh City Councilor Russ Stephenson. There are too many Miller posts to pick just one so I'm posting here. No I didn't ask Brad "the question". I figured if he has something to say, he'd say it, but I had the camera with me, just in case.
