The Death of America
The Brock Log is down for repairs, so this is all new, all original material.
I'm sorry to say, but America is dead. Perhaps it was the Military Commissions Act of 2006, maybe the shelter given to a pedophile in the Congress. It could've started with the PATRIOT Act and certainly, the illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq didn't provide a healing salve to the nation still wounded from September 2001.
Regardless of the mortal wound, the evidence is clear. America has died and it's clear who killed her.
According to the lawsuit filed at U.S. District Court in Denver, Howards and his son walked to about two-to-three feet from where Cheney was standing, and said to the vice president, "I think your policies in Iraq are reprehensible," or words to that effect, then walked on.
Ten minutes later, according to Howards' lawsuit, he and his son were walking back through the same area, when they were approached by Secret Service agent Virgil D. "Gus" Reichle Jr., who asked Howards if he had "assaulted" the vice president. Howards denied doing so, but was nonetheless placed in handcuffs and taken to the Eagle County Jail.

I love that this guy is suing the SS.
In fact, I'd like to see wholesale complaints and suits against every arm of the Party of Torture and Perverts.
I'm not sure America's dead, but it's definitely on life support.

After the last two weeks, I can't be that positive.
But, if you can be positive enough for both of us, I'll hang in there!!

Well you're in trouble then, pardner.
My optimism is a faint illusion in the best of times, and when it leaks out, it doesn't last for long.

Not while I have breath.
If I could be said to have a religion, it's America. I believe in what She stands for. I was raised on the Declaration of Independence; my father quizzed us on the Constitution at the dinner table. No shit. We didn't watch the Super Bowl or the World Series, or even the Olympics. For us, it was the conventions. Democrat, Republican, didn't matter. I was allowed to stay up and watch late if the role call went late. That was when they showed the whole thing, remember? My dad was so excited when McGovern was nominated, I swear, they knew it all over the neighborhood. I was pretty young then, but I will never ever forget the look on his face. Sheer joy.
And of course, I will never ever forget the Resignation Day party. That was blast.
Do you want to be inspired? Read Patriots, by Patrick Langguth. Read 1776 by David McCullough. Geeez. Watch West Wing! (Well - maybe that's going a little over the edge.)
America is not dead. Look at us! We are blogging - free enough still. They might be tracking us, but we're all still sitting in our homes, saying basically what we want to, about almost anything, and we're not in jail. (Yet.)
A few weeks ago, I helped a 32 year old woman register to vote for the very first time. Why did she register? Because she wanted to have a voice in a zoning dispute in her town. This woman never graduated from high school, makes minimum wage, and works two jobs to make ends meet. She never thought voting was for people like her. Once she registered, she turned around and registered two other people. And of course, they are all registered BLUE.
So any way - don't lose hope, don't lose faith. America is not dead. She is alive in those 3 women who found out they had the power to speak up to the city council. She is alive in the bus full of young men and women who went to Charlotte last week for the “Lincoln-Douglass” debate. (My son – he had fun. Oddly, the young man likes to argue politics. Go figure.) They’re going back again for more next weekend. Why are they debating? Because they can. Because America is not dead.
Sorry. Rant over. :)
Righteous rant, indeed.
Thanks for the pep talk.
