The Thug Life Of John Edwards

Last night during CNN's South Carolina Democratic Debate, John Edwards came out swinging, but not at Hillary or Obama, he came out swinging for the poor, the middle class - for those of us who aren't getting billion dollar bonuses for closing down US manufacturing plants.
In turned out to be a Jerry Springer Show for political geeks, John Edwards kept on topic during the Hillary/Barack cage match. He was the only one that looked Presidential, acted Presidential and was the one that exhibited an inner strength that ourpre -Bush allies could respect. But he could stand his ground when the occasion arose. Hillary brought up the issue of trial lawyers donating to Edward's campaign. Here is his golden response...
CLINTON: Well, John, trial lawyers have given you millions and millions of dollars. So...
EDWARDS: And what they expect from me is they expect me to stand up for democracy, for the right to jury trial, for the right for little people to be heard in the courtroom. And that is exactly what I stand up for.
That is not the same thing. That is not the same thing as corporate lobbyists who are in there every single day lobbying against the interests of middle-class Americans. And I think we need a president who can stand up.
We have a difference about this. You're entitled to your view. But we have a real difference about it.
Respectful but forceful.
We have had a President that has dished bullshit since way before he was ever elected and from what Hillary dished out last night, it just made me queasy. Her relentless and unwarranted attacks on Obama were difficult to watch, especially the lies about the Reagan and Rezco nonsense. That was NOT Presidential.
Oh yeah, one more thing, can we please get out of Iraq?

The debate last night.
I thought Edwards knocked it out of the park, but whether it will be enough to wake people up remains to be seen. Folks are voting based on perception and not reality - imagine that.

usually I am beat up on DKos but today, for reasons that utterly escape me, this diary is on the REC LIST.

Thanks!
I certainly didn't expect that kind of response.
BTW, John was good on Letterman last night.

Why this isn't up on the list of recent blog posts?
It was posted after the lowest one showing up on my computer (Submitted by angry grrl on Mon, 01/21/2008 - 11:14am). I wouldn't have seen it except for the recent comments.
And, awesome video, Robert. All that squabbling made me turn off the sound until they were through.

I'll have to see what I can do to tweak it.

Town Called Dobson is a special "topic"
Not sure what the deal is, maybe Betsy or Jerimee will know.

Front Page
TCD gets put on the front page when one of the mods deem it relevant to NC politics. I got to admit, I do not do a lot of NC focused strips these days. I do touch on Edwards and Blackwater on occasion, but that is about it.
I think TCD got a lot more traffic and page views when all strips were FPed, but that is someone else's decision. I am grateful to be allowed here at all.

You're not the only one who gets pulled off the front...
Anglico and Betsy have both pulled my nationally-focused pieces at times! : )

I just work here
The Town Called Dobson content type predates my tenure here.
I don't know what problem it was designed to solve.
I haven't read this full thread, is there a problem with TCD being it's own content type? If so, ought to be easy to fix.

The GOP will try to suppress the vote in 2008.
I think Town Called Dobson adds alot to the site.
Most of the time I laugh, most of the time I think, and sometimes I even cry. Although I know Stormbear has ignited controversy at times, I think I've lost my outrage gene (does that mean I can't be liberal anymore?). I think it adds a lot to the site and will be happy to FP it whenever someone thinks it should be and it hasn't been done already.
I don't usually come in through the front page, so I don't always realize what's up there.

It all started when TCD broke the site.
In the beginning Anglico would FP my strip when it was good - back then, I would go off on insane tangents. And it was the right thing for him to do.
Then I ran a strip on John Edwards that everyone hated. I mean they hated the ever-loving crap out of it. It was despised in ways unimaginable to clinicians, politicians and anthropologists.
Here is where it got bad. The original install of the site software's modding system was not made for the who-ha of that happened that day. Not only was the strip auto-pulled from the front page, it was truncated to the back waters of the admin area where only admins could see it. I couldn't even see it! It just generated a 404 error.
Then the censorship conspiracies came out... then a flame war.... But three days later everything had calmed down and the changes that were made to the modding code still wasn't enough and by day three the code was just taken offline.
That was when the strip became a menu bar feature (with custom content type) so people could find it easily since it was no longer being FPed due to lack of NC relevant content.
Some of the events are foggy... going by memory here. Add in your recollections.
(The bright spot in all of this is that it led to the creation of the Gay Agenda Daisies!)
A few months ago there was another system change that hid all of the strips back to March of last year and I couldn't post new ones at all. The new ones would just vanished. That issue was resolved and all is hunky dory.
I have not noticed any problems on my end for posting the strip.
The big beef I get is it is difficult to tell when a new strip is posted. I have a daily preview other sites use for this purpose (Bilerico) (Bits Of News). Clicking on these takes the user right to the strip on THEIR site. It does not redirect to me like the panel at Betsey's BeThink. It is designed for people who do not want to carry the strip but want to support it. (God bless you Betsey!)
The daily preview is updated on the TCD site when I publish a new strip. And I publish at the same time on TCD as I do here and elsewhere.
Because the daily preview automatically changes when new strips are published, users know to go read the new strip within your site.
That is probably the best solution. If you want to know how it works out for the website, contact Bil over at Bilerico. We have the program rockin' over here.

I missed the debate!
I cannot keep up with when they are scheduled anymore. Argh.
Here's hoping I can find good video (besides just clips.)
