There is blue, then there is Blue.
Most of us here are sick to death of the Speaker's scandal. The newspapers lately have been chock-a-block with new revelations, many of them unproven, that corruption abounds. Is it a coincidence then that this story finally emerges today?
RALEIGH -- Governor Mike Easley announced today that he has appointed former Speaker of the House Dan Blue to the North Carolina House of Representatives.
more from the story after the break
Blue will take over the NC House of Representatives 33rd District seat which he previously held from 1980 to 2002.
...
"Dan's record of service in the General Assembly and to the state of North Carolina is outstanding," said Governor Easley about Representative Blue in a released statement. "He has been a strong advocate for improving education and for keeping our state a leader."
...
Representative Blue has had a consistent reputation in politics as a "straight-shooter" and could be a potential front runner replacement for the embattled current House Speaker, Jim Black.
Speaker Black, who has remained in office, has been embroiled in an ethics scandal which has centered around lobbying and the passing of the state lottery bill as well as campaign funding violations.
If Blue is re-elected as Speaker, it could restore some faith by the public in the legislature, which seems to have continuing revelations of at least unethical behavior, if not outright illegal activities behind closed doors.

It would be fitting...
if Dan Blue took over the Speaker's seat at the same time every leadership position was also changed. If they didn't have the gumption to clean up themselves as leaders, they should be followers.

What does this mean?
Is there going to be a 'power struggle' to see who will be Speaker? Isn't this all window-dressing until after Tuesday? I hope like hell that the Dems retain the majority, but I don't see how this cures anything. What am I missing here?
