There May Be No 2008 Christmas For You Virginia

Yesterday, Virginia Foxx of the NC 5th Congressional District sent me her newsletter with this piece titled “Honoring our soldiers’ sacrifice” with the subtitle of “This month, remember the cost of freedom”.

The soldiers who take their places in the ranks of today’s military face challenges unlike those of any other era. The enemies of freedom are less easily defined and the battles to preserve liberty are not demarcated with the distinct contrasts of the past. In the face of these new challenges our troops continue to excel.

Yes Virginia, the enemies of freedom ARE less easily defined, let’s look at your voting history and see how you define yourself:

H.Res. 274: Providing for consideration of the bill (H.R. 1538) to amend title 10, United States Code, to improve the management of medical care, personnel actions, and quality of life issues for members of the Armed Forces who are receiving medical care in an outpatient status, and for other purposes. (On Agreeing to the Resolution) This bill was submitted on March 28th of this year, and you, Ms. Foxx voted NAY!

H.R. 1591: Making emergency supplemental appropriations for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2007, and for other purposes. (On Agreeing to the Conference Report) this bill provides for US Troop readiness, Vets Health and Iraqi Accountability, again Ms. Foxx, you voted Nay.

Vote 99: H CON RES 63: This measure expresses the House's disagreement with President Bush's planned troop buildup in Iraq. The nonbinding resolution pledges support for U.S. personnel serving "bravely and honorably in Iraq" but says Congress "disapproves" of the president’s plan to add more than 20,000 combat troops. The resolution was approved 246 to 182. Seventeen Republicans joined 229 Democrats in support of the resolution. Two Democrats opposed the measure. While the 95-word resolution has no legal weight to force the president to change his course in Iraq, it marks a first key showdown between the White House and the new Congress controlled by Democrats. Again you showed that you are a faithful Republican and not a supporter of the Troops because you voted Nay.

Our often-polarized political environment makes it easy to forget that our troops volunteered to fight on behalf of their nation. This is an incredible statement. We would do well this month to reflect on the meaning our soldiers’ voluntary sacrifice. They risk life and limb so that we do not have to. They pursue the enemies of freedom abroad in order that we will not confront them at home. In the most basic sense, they enable a way of life which makes the United States a shining light for the world’s oppressed people.

You make this statement Ms. Foxx, and yet you don’t support the troops. You consistently toe the Republican line, even when it hurts the very troops that you claim to support. A quote from GovTrack,

Foxx is a radical Republican according to GovTrack's own analysis of bill sponsorship.

Another paragraph in her email just leaves me scratching my head in confusion.

In a culture that idolizes celebrity and ease at the cost of personal sacrifice, we must take pains to recognize the selfless commitment of our fighting men and women. Defying cultural currents, they have declared that there is no cost is too high for freedom. We must respond in kind and demonstrate that there is no cost too high in honoring their sacrifice.

You, Ms. Foxx have failed the troops on many levels, you have proven that party is more important than either the will of the people or the troops you claim to support. Wake up Virginia, there may be no Christmas for you in 2008!

Wait...

She asked for a contribution to honor the troops?

Fold it up and send it to a reporter you like.

Sorry, didn't word that right

not to honor the troops but to her campaign.

I got the newsletter as well

but haven't had a chance to read it yet. Gotta run open it right quick.

Great post, Mo.

Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.

Damn, went back and put on my glasses

not asking for a contribution but to be allowed to continue sending me newletters. I hate getting old!

That's worse than asking for a contribution

It is SD

and I took the "contribution" line out of my post. Ms. Foxx still seems to be a hypocrite with this letter. She wants US to support the troops, but she fails to do that time and again.

That woman just can't be for real

Those bigass ugly earrings have finally choked off all the blood to her nasty little brain. Honestly, does she actually believe that soldiers are dying for our freedom in Iraq? Word up: you can't export freedom or democracy at the point of a gun. That's the same mental gymnastics that would allow a person to say they're pro-war, pro-death penalty and pro-life all at once.

Completely irreconcilable concepts, yet that vile woman manages to regurgitate the already-tired 2004 Rove lines with a straight face. Me and a lot of other folks ain't buyin' it -- to accept it would be to admit to either insanity or abject laziness.

More's the pity that the only other person who got any air-play in Winston that year was Vermin Robinson. Makes me want to stay the hell out of Forsyth altogether, if that's the best they can come up with.

It's way past time to kick neo-selfservative Rovebot Vagina Fuchs to the curb along with her crazy nastiness.

made an impression on the child-in-chief, now he's all for bench marks....next he'll be spewing that it was his idea all along.

(I hate that man)

I feel embarrassed for our whole darn country . . . that we allowed such a fool to get away with so much destruction.

This is exactly what NC Citizens need to see....

Rooting out the voting records and shouting them from the rooftops is the only way to get the people's attention in many cases. The out of touch eletist, who are sometime called representatives, were hired as servants of the people, nothing more, nothing less.

Often, when they put on the robes of a representative, the servant part is quickly forgotten. Consequently the elected official begins to believe all of his /her own good press and forgets who the person in the mirrior is.

In 2008, should the real nature of the Republican Party be understood, the people will wake up, stand up and vote. Everyone wants to be counted for something, and America is a pretty good thing to stand up for and be counted.

Good on you Momoaizo

There are very few who

remember that important point: that we elect people to do the people's business. I look up to Brad Miller, Dennis Kucinich, Charlie Rangel, John Conyers and (almost without saying) Robert Kennedy. I regret to report that I can't say nearly so much for our senators. You're looking to fill some mighty big shoes and from the tenor of your posts, they'll fit just fine.

I hope you can identify with the biggest problem we have out here "in the wild" is getting people who have been so immersed in Faux Noise to pause just a moment -- just for a scant moment -- to listen to actual fact. How I would love to bare the misdeeds of the Republican Party. (It's quite a feat actually, to become twice as corrupt in one-third the time it took the Democrats to fall from grace.)

Side note: I lived in Fort Lauderdale during the 2000 elections. Imagine my shock when I saw the shredder trucks in front of my precinct at 7:30am the morning after election day. My partner and I wept, because we knew at that moment a piece of America had died. We so want to resurrect her.

All too often, even in the face of all evidence, I'm confronted with fingers in the ears and "la la lalalalal! I don't want to hear it! It's too ugly and too real!" By tiny degrees, I've gotten my co-workers to begin to listen... but after four years of gentle persuasion, it's still a tough battle. The clock to '08 is ticking.

Indeed, the Republican Party needs to be exposed. My greatest fear is that our Democrats will knock a few of the legs out, jail a few minor lieutenants and let the rest slide. That's what happened after Watergate and many of the same players have created the mess we're living in now. There is a vast and nasty swamp to be drained. We must be willing and able to cut to the bone, lest the rot infect our system of government all over again.

If I had a chance of supporting my family and keeping the lights on, I'd give most anything else to wade in with you. Our nation, our ideals, our Constitution are far too important to make halfass swipes at protecting. I can offer my support and hope that you take the rest of us up on an offer that if you care to reach back, we'll be here to catch you.

I'm still learning

I'm glad that "The People's Think Tank" exists and that I am lucky enough to be a member of this community. My writing skills are improving along with research skills. I've still got a lot of learning to do, but here I can learn from the best.

Thanks Marshall, for putting yourself out there and for continuing to be part of this community.

How convenient that "the

How convenient that "the enemies of freedom are less easily defined". Oceania has always been at war with East Asia. It's an enemy of freedom.

I wonder how many of them believe the crap they spew. You'd think wouldn't lay it on the line like that. The enemies of freedom are less easily defined. To your obvious advantage, to keep our country in a state of continual foreign war.

To listen to Fox News you'd think to biggest threat to freedom was the Democratic party, anyway.

sigh.

Good point

How convenient that "the enemies of freedom are less easily defined".

Good point. Can't define the enemy, the Republican way is to just keep fighting until they figure out who the heck the enemy is.

Ms. Foxx not only doesn't support the troops

but she doesn't support lower interest rate for college loans, she voted NO to HR5 (This bill would lower the interest rate on student loans.)

She DOES support Big Oil, she voted NO to HR6 (This bill would repeal tax cuts to oil companies and mandate that they pay a fee to remove oil from the Gulf of Mexico. It would also fund renewable energy programs.)

She doesn't even support Seniors, she voted NO to HR 4 (This bill would allow the government to negotiate directly with drugmakers for lower prescription drug prices for individuals using Medicare. )

She doesn't even support minimum wage earners, she voted NO to HR 2 (This bill would increase the federal minimum wage from $5.15 an hour to $7.25 an hour over two years.)

She doesn't even support security for the American public, she voted NO to HR 1 (This bill would implement many of the remaining recommendations proposed by the 9/11 Commission in 2004. The almost 300-page bill amends the Homeland Security Act of 2002 to give faster and more efficient funding to first responders. It also boosts federal aid to regions at greatest risk of a terrorist attack. It aims to improve the flow of intelligence between local law enforcement and first responders.)

Thanks to Republicans like Virginia Foxx, there will be a WONDERFUL Christmas for Dems in 2008!

Great original post, Mo! Foxxy lady, indeed. It's inconceivable to me how she (and Coble, for that matter) got elected. They continue to vote against the interests of the people of NC, and the US. But come 2008 - Happy Christmas, War is Over.
