Things to ponder (or, Maybe it is all about sex after all)

Psychology Today has an excerpt from a new book about sexuality in which the authors talk about what they define as the 10 un-politically correct truths about human nature.

I've been thinking about this topic lately, and the lack of one subject surprised me. Maybe it's in the book, I don't know. But what I'm thinking about is the relationship between sexuality and war. This isn't just the war-bride phenomenon where people hurry to get married and often pregnant before one or the other of them ships out, but also the relationship between soldiers and their sexuality, and aggression, violence, and the millennia-long habit of soldiers raping captives. With all of the rape trials (and I specifically avoid news of such, right now, as they mess with my disaster-fatigue filters) that I hear about on the news, I wonder how many more rape trials are going uncovered by the news outlets and also how many rapes have gone prosecuted at all. Why oh why is rape so tied in with war?

One friend did mention a study that many of us learned about in Soc. 10 or Sociology 101 or the like, that when the gender balance tips away from 50% toward more men, war can be more likely to break out, but that's not the only reason, of course.

I am just so tired of this war that has gone on longer than the US involvement in WWII, will soon cost more than Vietnam adjusted for inflation, and is killing more people every day.

Yep

It's always about sex one way or another. Mostly men showing how tough they are out of some testosterone-poisoned daze wherein they need to demonstrate dominance.

Plus when you live in the kind of repressed society we're in - one in which companies like Trojan aren't allowed to run commercials on networks while Viagra fills the airwaves between shows featuring rampant and irresponsible sex - well things are pretty much screwed up beyond relief.

I'd love to hear what others think about this. It makes me wish Stormy's Gay Bomb was a reality. Maybe then we could all just get laid and stop all the damn fighting.

:) Best idea I've heard in months. Make love, not war.

Rape

is a violent crime - so of course when violence increases, rape increases.

And we've seen that when soldiers come home, domestic violence increases, too. The re-entry to the real world after the battlefield must be horrendous. Those who have done it successfully have my sincere respect.

This is Troubling -

When I think about China's one child policy and their propensity for choosing the boys and ditching the girls.

I have seen articles reflecting the opinions of what might happen because of this. Sorry I don't remember where or who. I don't even remember if it was MSM or Journal.

(I don't have time to go Googling either - you might find it with the right keywords)

Our involvement with Japan

went till apr 1952 when we gave total control back to the soverign government of Japan.

Only diffrence between then and now is then the emperor was allowed to stay as a figurehead for the people of Japan.

Iraq does not have an emperior or a figurehead.
