Time For Change in the State Auditor's Office

Today I received an email I've been waiting for - an appeal to help Beth Wood become North Carolina's next State Auditor. Having met and spoken to her in that most sacred of all spots, the ladies' room, I am convinced she will be an auditor with integrity and not use her position to promote political agendas. disclosure:My agency receives state funding and is therefore subject to state auditing rules.

Here's the really important part - in order to qualify for public funding, Beth needs donations from you and me. She needs them in the form of checks or money orders in small amounts - cool, huh?? Everyone can do that. Read more below the fold.

My name is Beth Wood. I am a Democrat, I am a CPA and I believe that I am your best opportunity for the Democratic Party to take back the Office of the State Auditor in 2008. The Democrats lost that critical seat in 2004 and it is imperative that we take it back. The office is within our grasp—but only with your assistance.

With 20 years experience as a CPA, 15 years’ experience in 2 state agencies, 10 years’ experience in the State Auditor’s Office and a trainer of CPAs across the nation, I have the credentials as well as the knowledge, skill and abilities to win the General Election in 2008.

The Office of the State Auditor is one of 3 Council of State Offices that are eligible for public funding for their race. But to be eligible for these Public Funds, I must raise $30,000 by the May 6 Primary—only less than 90 days away. This money must come from 750 registered voters and no one person can give more than $200.

Additionally, the law allows me to raise a total of $119,000 (including the aforementioned $30,000), but again, this also must be raised by May 6. Why would I want or need to raise more than minimum $30,000 required? I believe it will take every penny of available contributions to finance a campaign to unseat the current Republican.
