*House Bill 1517: Voter-Owned Elections Pilot for Council of State
races*would provide a public financing option for candidates for 3
Council of
State positions (Commissioner of Insurance, Superintendent of Public
Instruction, and Auditor) as long as they gather hundreds of small donations
from voters and accept strict fundraising and spending limits. This bill
will help level the playing field and put these elections in the hands of
voters, not special interest donors. The bill has already passed the House
Election Law Committee.
House Bill 1517 will be coming up for a crucial vote in the N.C. House
Appropriations Committee soon.

your Representative to support House Bill 1517 to expand voter-owned
elections for our Council of State. You can also reach your representative
by phone at the legislature in Raleigh at (919) 733- 4111. If you call and
they are not available or no one answers, please leave a quick message
letting them know that you are a constituent.

now!

Dear Representative Wiley,
You have been very responsive to my concerns in the past and I want you to
know I appreciate that.
This issue may be the most important yet. Voter-Owned Elections in North
Carolina would stop the insanity of politicians spending the people's time
and energy to raise the absurd sums that have come to be the standard
campaign threshold to running for public office.
H-1517: Voter-Owned Elctions for Council of State is a great step forward
in the march to that goal. Our elections of judicial candidates are
already funded in this manner and expanding the program is the next
logical step.
Please support this noble bill and will you please talk with your
colleagues about it? Let them know that this program is voluntary for the
candidates involved.
