Veritas

Veritas.

This Latin word for Truth is dead, but is its meaning? It very definition implies an honesty we rarely see in our own lives let alone in politics.

Yet this year, there's been more of an interest in truth. With the justification of the Iraq War, the Valerie Plame debacle, and other half truth's and lies, this election cycle has featured relatively more straight talk than an other cycle in quite some time. Barack Obama, Jim Neal, Dan Besse, Jay Ovittore, and countless other democratic challenges have spoken to voters as though they are educated on the issues today. Their messages might not be the easiest to hear, but they present a practical view of the future.

Which is exactly why, recently I felt betrayed by Teresa Sue Bratton. On April 3 in a debate on healthcare, she flatly said that she did not believe in single payer universal healthcare. That's fine. Everyone has their opinion on the issue. I can even understand from a doctor's opinion why she wouldn't support single payer universal healthcare.

The problem arose when a few days later; she stood up at a Alamance County YD event and said exactly the opposite. I don't think I ask for a lot when I ask for my next Congressman (or Congresswoman) to be honest, but apparently, I'm asking for too much from Teresa Bratton.

As a doctor, I would fully expect her to be truthful to her patients. And her patients are the exact same people she depends on for their vote on May 6th.

Thanks Dixieblue!

For the kind words, thanks!

I did notice the link is not working. Here is the video dixieblue was trying to link to:

I am slowly but surely uploading the three debates cut into sections based on questions. I believe the entire first debate at Guilford College is up. Parts of the second one are up as well. I will continue to add to the YouTube selection as time allows. You can find all the video at Youtube. I am having some issues getting a link to work for it. So, if you search my name at YouTube you will find the collection of debate goodies!

Thanks Jay

I had an extra space in there at the end. But I went back and fixed the link.

Political truth

Politicians tell us what they think we want to hear, to them the end justifies the means. We permit it by electing the same politicians over and over and then wonder why it is so screwed up.

I try to answer questions as honestly and truthfully as I can but this rarely gets votes.

TrueMeckDem on Myers Park Pat

"My opinion of Pat has changed over the years. I used to think he was truly a man of the people but the longer he has been mayor, the less I think of him.

As with most cities, Charlotte has three political parties: Dem, Rep, and Chamber of Commerce. Pat is definitely the puppet of the COC here. What is good for business is good for Charlotte and Pat ... very personable guy, he has gotten a bunch of Dems in these parts to vote for him but I don't trust him."
