Sigh.

Good for him, but dammit does he have to be such a good speaker?

Graig's picture

Any mention of that jetski he asked for?

On a more serious note, I'm curious... why make this endorsement now?

I think it snares the spotlight

in a really good way, the day after Clinton won WVa in a big way. It gives the talking heads something new to chew on, and refocusses on Big O instead of La C.

And I think it's part of a campaign to bring Michigan back into the fold- neither Obama nor Edwards campaigned there, which is why Clinton is claiming all their convention votes.

Good point

The timing is brilliant. It realy does trump Hillary's WV win and her television appearances tonight.

Futher, Edwards' endorsement may very well help counter the Hillary campaign narrative, that only she can win over the "white, hardworking American" voters (Blue Collar voters).

Congressman Bonior (MI), Edwards' former campaign manager also endorsed Obama, last week or so. That may be provide a boost in Michigan as well.

Yes, Obama didn't need it in NC

and it would have been wasted in PA, so it was perfect to wait. Whether it worked like this or not, it didn't hurt Obama at all for him to keep this in his pocket for a rainy day.

Not to mention that Edwards' speech provides a model of the graceful concession of defeat and powerful declaration of support against McCain that all the superdelegates by now wish Clinton would make.

Hey...that's TWO Jetskis!

Strategy

So John Edwards makes a public decision without concern of North Carolinians, SHOCKER!

without concern??

What part of Sen. Obama winning NC did YOU miss?

Seriously.

n/t

Yeah, he mentioned the jetski first thing.

It was a hoot.

And a good day for Democrats, I think.

So, what's the price?

Veep slot? AG?

I'm sure Johnny boy is getting something out of this.

Such a cynic

No wonder you're a Libertarian.

Why would I have to be cynical....

To raise the possibility that there could be some sort of a political deal behind this? This is politics, after all, and Barack Obama and John Edwards are both politicians.

But let's assume that I am being cynical in making this comment. Again: this is politics, after all.

Oh, and why would I have to be cynical to be a libertarian? I think the principle of liberty is actually rather inspiring.

Why are you here?

I just starting taking note of your name and it seems like every comment is something pissy or smarmy about Democrats. This is "Blue"NC.

Incorrect.

I have said good things about particular Democrats (Neal, Smathers are two that come to mind; in fact, I even said I'd vote for Smathers). Heck, I'll even say something nice about you: that's a kicking beard you have, there. I have also called Republicans out for b.s., and I will continue to do so when they deserve it.

A jetski

Kawasaki if I remember right.

"Johnny Boy" sound like Kool-aid talk

I'm certain John thought very carefully about his endorsement and the only requisite I recall was to make alleviating poverty a big priority in the next administration. If Obama (presuming he is the nominee) wants to create a cabinet position for John to continue moving the progressive agenda and making government work best for all of us, then great.

Robert P, I agree that the crowd was on fire when John walked on that stage last night. John "Stand and Deliver" Edwards..and very gracious towards Hillary.

And Helms begat Reagan...

Arguably, Ronald Reagan's Helms enabled win in the 1976 NC primary was all the encouragement he needed to try again in 1980, setting the stage for the Reagan Revolution and synergistic escapades like this one...

TrueMeckDem on Myers Park Pat

"My opinion of Pat has changed over the years. I used to think he was truly a man of the people but the longer he has been mayor, the less I think of him.

As with most cities, Charlotte has three political parties: Dem, Rep, and Chamber of Commerce. Pat is definitely the puppet of the COC here. What is good for business is good for Charlotte and Pat ... very personable guy, he has gotten a bunch of Dems in these parts to vote for him but I don't trust him."
