Wake Up Democrats..focus on the media!
If we do not learn from History we are bound to fail.Sadly,Karl Rove learned from history and fine tuned it to propogate the Neocon agenda.
Germany's General Goring convinced the people of Germany to follow Hitler by scaring them, finding false enemies and denouncing Pacifists as non-patriotic.Goebbels,the propaganda minister, said own the media and control the message.
Today,in America, the Neocons have followed this formula and succeeded. Reagan got rid of the Fairness Doctrine and now 91 percent of talk radio is right wing. Fox News is nothing but an echo chamber of the RNC,Murdoch just bought the WSJ and the FCC Chairman,Martin,is consolidating media ownership even further.
Our only progressive program is Countdown on MSNBC with Keith Olbermann. Not only do we need to support him,but fight for more like him.
Even John Dean, attorney for Richard Nixon, said Nixon would not be impeached today because of Fox and talk radio. If we want to save this Democracy and Constitution from Fascism we need to Unite and get the truth out.Let us all focus on History and force the 4th Estate to do the right thing.

ever heard of...
Ever heard of Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert? Bill Maher?
media
My point exactly. They are comediens!!
yes...
and more young people get their news from them than from any major news outlet.
Left on 49
And I can't wait
until Jan 7 when Colbert and Stewart come back to TV. I don't get my news from there - but I get my - I don't know - validation? - from there. Before I found BlueNC, The Daily Show and Countdown were the only places that let me know that I wasn't the only one who saw that the frickin' emperor had no damn clothes on.

Where is
ABC NBC and CBS on this? They left or right wing slanted? I do not watch any of these programs cause they are just flat out boring. Stopped watching news a long time ago.
I prefer neutral journalism vice skewed journalism. If I want to fall under another Goringistic spell caster, I will watch a skewed news program. If I wish to be informed, then I will research what is being told me and question when needed.
Failure to validate any political news source is falling into a Goring/Goebbel's trap.
As far as talk radio is concerned, it is a fart in the wind. Listening to them guys is for entertainment and not news. They are not journalists, but skewed commentators. Some of them actually admit that. So study what you hear, read, see, and if it falls true to what you believe, then accept it, if not, reject it.
People who utilize talk radio for their news are sheep. Going wherever the wind blows them. If they wish to accept talk radio as fact, then they can easily be beaten and manipulated with an educated voting base.
FAIRNESS DOCTRINE This description describes the requirement of journalists. Many of the right wing yackers claim they are entertainers and would not fall under this in the first place. Nice quick description.
Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Bill Maher, Rush Limbaugh, Shawn Hannady could all be considered the same, comedians and entertainers. Do we really want the government to be telling us what we cannot listen to just because we do like what we are hearing from entertainers? I would rather let them right wingers yack then have my freedoms of entertainment removed. You can always change the station or better yet, beat the sheep with logic and truth. Will it become from 10am to noon the democratic hour, from noon to 2pm the republican hour, from 2pm to 4pm the libretarian hour on all channels so no one can switch channels to hear a different view point then that prescribed?
I am a big boy and will turn off the radio before I listen to something I do not agree with. I do not need or want the government telling me what I should listen to. I do not fear that the other side is going to become overwhelming just because some entertainer said something about my candidate. If that does happen, then my guy lost because of sheep listening to noise and not educated reasoning.
But the sheep have the right to be sheep.
Media
You say we can win by telling the truth and using logic, but just how will you get that message out? Like you,I research news on the computer to find the truth, but if we have no "megaphone" to get that information out to the sheep we lose.
I am not suggesting the Government control speech. They are already doing that.As we sit and blog and research they control the media. The FCC continues to consolidate ownership.
Yes,sheep have the right to be sheep, but let's get the truth out to the sheep.
Sheep have a right to be sheep
Very funny.
funny - but true
I suppose that's the biggest flaw in democracy. You have a right to ignorant, a right to not vote, and a right to just plain not care.
I can better understand those who are passionate on the other side of the aisle from me than I can understand those who are apathetic.
Be the change you wish to see in the world. --Gandhi
The importance of this topic can't be overstated!
I was going to write a long rant on who to blame, and all that, but we need responsible people to be in power first. I can remember Truman talking on radio as a kid, because my father wanted me to understand why it was important. Since that time, I can never remember thinking that this republic is in such danger from corruption, and apathy, as it is now. Our guys, (Democratic party) can't get subpoenas enforced, don't see any reasons for impeachment, and generally ignore their electorate. No need to worry. As you have pointed out, the crooks and liars control the media.
they don't control all of the media.
And not all of our guys (Democrats) are ignorant of the reasons for impeachment.
We are using the most powerful media we can right now. It's not TV, but news can fly faster on this box sitting on my desk than it can on the box sitting in my living room. And because of that, we can watch things like this:
Please go and sign Wexler's petition if you haven't already. The more names he takes to the Judiciary Committee, the more serious they will know we are about this.
Be the change you wish to see in the world. --Gandhi
Yes, you are right!
It's not all our guys, just the leadership, for some reason beyond any comprehension. And yes, I did sign the petition last week.
media
Once again you support my opinion. Has anyone seen Congrssman Wexler's Petition to Impeach Cheney on ANY news broadcast or AM radio show???
Has anyone heard that Bush is allowing Mexican trucking companies on US roads even though a huge majority (411-3 House and 75-25 Senate) voted to defund this program? (HR1733)
Has any news program actually talked about the actual goal of the surge in Iraq which was Political reconciliation? NO they say the surge is working and not ONE mentions the actual goal has been an abject failure.
Whoever controls the information and frames the debate will win.
Too few 'crats understand
Too few 'crats understand how to properly use the internet or modern media. Hell, and we're the more modern ones- Republicans have even more issue. Too many politicos are satisfied sitting around doing the same old strategy (lots of newspapers, a little bit of TV, and a lot of hand shaking) without really thinking it through.
Then again, you go to places like my district (NC-10) where Johnson won't get his name in the newspaper in the damned Obituary column because McHenry has too many friends in the press. What's a candidate to do?
What's a candidate to do?
Go nuclear. Stage events like Larry did with at the gas station.
Wheel barrow fifty pounds of chicken manure into the newspaper office with a sign planted in it saying: "What do my wheel barrow and Patrick McHorny have in common? They're both full of chickenshit." Plaster the thoroughfares with Burma Shave signs challenging the integrity of the newspapers. Play them off one another.
Gonna have to get creative.
I like the Burma Shave idea
and just for future reference, I designed billboards professionally for 10 years, so if you need something designed to be legible from a moving car...
