Want something to do?
Budget negotiations between the House and Senate are coming down to the wire, and the pressure is on for compromise. Please write to Speaker Hackney right now and give him two words of encouragement:
NO COMPROMISE
The Senate position is a disastrous step backwards for North Carolina. And frankly, they are on the wrong side of nearly every issue. Here is what the progressives I know want - and it looks a lot like the House position:
End the county share of Medicaid
Give local governments the option of a transfer tax subject to a local referendum
Keep the two temporary taxes in place, especially the income tax on wealthy individuals
Allow citizens to vote on a statewide bond to pay for open space, water and sewer improvements, and transportation projects.
Please write joeh@ncleg.net and encourage Speaker Hackney to stay strong. Encourage him to fight the special interest of the NC Realtors Home Ticks, and don't settle for anything less than fiscal responsibility.
Write your own representative and senator too. Let them know where you stand:
NO COMPROMISE.

This is crunch time.
I hope you'll send one more message.
Pretty please?
I did mine . . .
have you?
*nudge, nudge*
Done
twas easy.
I had two other words in mind
First one starts with F. Second one ends in 'em.
"85% of Republicans are Democrats who don't know what's going on." -Robert Kennedy, Jr.
I like your two words better than mine
but I'm trying to swear off swearing . . . obviously not doing so well.
"Don't panic"
As If -
I didn't have enough to do. LOL.
It's okay. Mine's off and away. Check your incoming -A-.
Done
And sent them to Leubke and McKissick as well.
Need One More Thing to Do?
Get the inside skinny of this disaster waiting to happen.
I'm sure we have one or two people with the Inside edition. Yes?
Done
Quiet honestly, if McKissick doesn't manage to do something on this, I'm hoping we can find a primary opponent for him next time around, when he can't pull local party strings to sneak into the Senate. If he starts to deliver, fine, but if not, we need to see if we can get Mary Ann Black back in the mix.
He will have
a primary opponent - I think that is a sure thing. I do not think Mary Ann Black is the answer though. She is a slumlord. The city has had to take action against her and her husband in regard to their substandard rental properties more than 100 times in recent years.
Durham can do better than that.
Really?
Hadn't heard that. I knew about Lavonia Allison's slum properties, but Black's a new one for me.
