Wayne Goodwin needs your urgent help now!
Wayne Goodwin is running for Insurance Commissioner to succeed his mentor Jim Long.
Jim Long endorsed Wayne for this position. I trust Jim Long. Jim endorsed Jerry Meek for State party chair when the powers that be wanted someone else. Jim Long has worked long and hard to keep our insurance rates low. I saw Jim chair an insurance hearing a few years ago where he made some insurance industry "suit" really sweat to justify his claim that BCBS would be operating with one hand tied behind its back if it wasn't allowed to go private. The "suit" failed - as most of them have done over the years when they try to get one over on Jim and the rest of us.
The Insurance Commission will be in great hands under Wayne. Many of us have seen have seen how well Wayne had taken care of the resolutions and platform committee for the State party, so you know Wayne can also handle details with great skill. He showed further examples of his good character and progressive nature when he stepped up to the plate to sign onto being eligible for public financing - in other words, voter-owned elections.
If you want voter-owned elections, please read on and open up your checkbooks before April 5, 2008 and contribute between $10 and $200 to Wayne's campaign to run a voter-owned campaign!

Wayne Goodwin Needs Your Urgent Help: My Publicly Financed Campaign for Insurance Commissioner Needs Your Contribution of $10 to $200 TODAY
In case you have not heard, Insurance Commissioner Jim Long surprisingly chose not to run for a 7th term and instead fully and energetically endorsed me, Wayne Goodwin, to be his successor.
I have served as Assistant Commissioner of Insurance for the last 3 years, a role which includes Assistant State Fire Marshal. Prior to that I was our Party's 2004 nominee for Labor Commissioner and an 8-year member of the NC House of Representatives. I also served 2 terms as President of the Young Democrats and in many other Party offices over the last 25 years.
At the very last minute another Democrat and a Republican filed to run against me for Insurance Commissioner.
Meanwhile, a new twist is the new law allow public financing of the Insurance Commissioner campaign in 2008.
I have already quickly met the initial phase of raising $20,000 under the old law, and now need your help to become a certified candidate eligible to receive public funding. Eligibility for public funding will allow me to campaign directly to the voters and working from the grassroots upward.
Here is how the program works:
I must raise small qualifying contributions - personal check or money order only - from at least 750 registered NC voters in amounts between $10 and $200. Those 750+ contributions must surpass $29,000. If I meet those triggers, then the State of North Carolina will disburse $380,000 to my campaign for the Fall election against my Republican opponent. ... For another summary and additional helpful Internet links about Wayne's campaign, go to http://eighthdistrictdemsnc.blogspot.com/2008/03/wayne-goodwin-became-fi...
Because of my having a contested race, I need your help today ...
With the reporting deadlines for where candidates stand in obtaining their 750+ contributors, I need your help within the next 10 days!
Also, keep in mind that the legislature prohibits credit card contributions for this program because original signatures are on personal checks and money orders.
It is URGENT - vital - that I meet the 750 contribution minimum by April 5th, if possible. For that reason, I am contacting everyone possible for help.
Please make out your personal check or money order to "The Goodwin Committee" and mail it to P.O. Box 1654, Hamlet NC 28345. Please include yoru address, date of birth, and employer.
If you have a partner or significant other, then please send two checks - one from each of you - even if only for $10, $25, etc. The same goes if you have adult children registered to vote, friends, business associates, precinct chairs, etc. Keep in mind, though, that for me to meet the minimum of $29,000 that it is best that the average contribution be more than $38.67 each. Ideally, contributions of $100 and $200 each will help bring up the average I will have from the $10 contributions that friends and supporters send.
I promise to keep you posted every 2 weeks with my totals as we count down to the deadline of May 6, which is also the date of the primary election.
To elect a TRUE Democrat and not someone aligned with the insurance industry, send your check or money order now!
Thank you.
Wayne Goodwin
