We Matter
"Which Swing States Really Matters" [sic] was the title of a recent DKos post picking at the stupid Ickes spin. My answer? North Carolina!
1. It will seal the deal for Obama come what may after all the Ohio, TX, Penn stuff on May 6. Obama already has a 10 point lead in the poll here.
2. It is still a long shot in the general, but we will be in play for the first time in 30 years and the spillover will sew up Virginia for Obama.
3. The down ballot effects will be powerful in a number of counties (county government is where the poor get health care, education here and other make or break services in NC) and tip red/purple counties solidly into the blue.
IF Obama is the nominee.
If not, never mind. Turn back the clocks and the calendars, wait another decade or so. (not that I am personally defeatist -- I'll continue to work my butt off locally but we really do have to acknowledge the difference).

I agree with you, demondeac
But I wonder what you mean by this:
Didn't Virginia already vote - and go overwhelmingly for Obama? Or is there another caucus or something coming?

He seems to be switching gears to November.
emphasis added
I wonder which way the "spillover" will go. VA is trending bluer and bluer. If VA and NC go blue in November, then Barack Obama will be on his way to an inaugeration.

And let me add this
Because we are going to matter this time, our GOTV efforts for the Primary are more important than ever. I know a lot of people were counting on the big GOTV pushes coming in Sept. and Oct., but guess what, my dears and darlings, GOTV is here. Call someone you love, like, or know, and remind them to check their registration. If they are unafilliated, remind them that they can vote in the Democratic Primary.
Our party headquarters is a store front in Carthage - and we had an officer's meeting on Thursday night. A gentleman walked in off the street (and Carthage is not a big place with a lot of traffic at night), and said "where do I sign up, when is your next meeting? Aren't you excited? Damn! We're making history this year no matter what! And NC is in play!!!"
It was the best boost in the arm our tired officers could have gotten. We've NEVER had anyone walk in off the street. We've never seen that kind of energy. It was inspiring.

Same happening all over
Our voter registration committee is getting a huge boost of volunteers from folks who Obama attracted, independents changing their registration, whole groups of people coming into our volunteer structure.
"The fierce urgency of now" is upon us.

Tsunami is coming
I usually keep our local campaign HQ in Cabarrus County open on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Usually there's one or 2 voicemails waiting on me and hardly ever does anyone walk in.
For the last 2 weeks we've had at least 10 voice mails when I walked in and last Wednesday I had 6 people come in, 5 of them asking for Obama "swag", one asking for Hillary stuff.
This week alone we've registered 30 new voters, 20 of them barely 18.
I'm also organizing "Cabarrus for Obama" and after announcing our first meeting on Obama's website 2 days ago, I already have 20 people RSVP.
The masses are coming, you better be prepared :-)
